Calvin's roster is posted Monday afternoon, and Hope is on their 4th day of 5 tryouts?  Early bird catches the worm, or the MIAA trophy?

This is no different than it's been for the last several years.

Thanks OK.  I saw Systma on the assistant list, but hadn't heard what happened.  That's too bad.
Regarding Calvin's 99-00 fr. class one should really remember that they joined a very solid group of upper classmen.  Without the senior leadership I doubt they would have made it very far.  I would be more optimistic about Calvin's chances for this year if that type leadership was in place.  As it is I think it is going to take some time for everyone to learn their roles, and by the end of the season they will be formidable.

WHY???  Other schools trying  to get a jump on things and Hope sticking to the formula that works?

I'm not knocking it at all.  Especially in an era where coaches from Little League/AAU through middle school and high school on up, feel kids need to commit year round so they don't "fall behind".  There's a lot of pressure on coaches and their programs.  If you don't work as hard or as long as " so and so" you're a slacker and don't care enough about your kids.  Baseball and softball signup meetings in November?  Track workouts in October?  Wrestling in June?  When does it stop....

Good point.  KVS has done this almost every year.  He comes out with his 14 or 15 once he knows what he has.  Always room to add a jv to the bench later.
I also like/respect the way GVW does it.  The first week a lot of time is spent on conditioning, and having 20-25 fr. with a dream running around doesn't really hurt anything.

I think the fact that Hope was on Fall break this past weekend might have been part of the reason why GVW didn't start tryouts until Monday. I know it was appreciated to have the guys home with their families for at least a few days of the break. The rosters of both teams will probably be announced Saturday.

I caught some of the Women's scrimmage last night against Bethel.

Does anyone know of any on-campus scrimmages for the Calvin men?

Introducing Storm, the Chinese New Year Lion!

I don't think its too bad, it would definitely make my top 3 for MIAA mascots.

Sounds like an episode of "Brian Fellow's Safari Planet"
