Kelvin did not try out for basketball, he is a student at Hope.

Hope vs. Oakland University, November 10 @ 7pm, not on Hope's website.  Wonder if Bunn will be up for that game?

That game is listed as an exhibition game for Oakland fwiw.   Exciting to visit the eastside again.

Will Peter be ready to go then?

Interesting that on Hope's JV roster there are 4 freshman who are all from the same high school team - Grosse Pointe North.  Looks like that team went something like 21-2 last year.

I wonder if anyone remembers an MIAA team (varsity or jv) having 4 high school teammates from the same class together???

One or two (possibly 3) of the early 90s Calvin teams had 5 (or 6 maybe 7) kids from Grand Rapids Christian.

Sac.  You are 100 % correct.
Looking over the Hope rosters it strikes me that GVW has once again done a good job keeping the pipleline well stocked.  Interesting getting 4 from one h.s. on the other side of the state.  What is the connection?

I really expected to see several more of last years Hope jv team make the move up.  Is it safe to assume that the 3 fr's listed are that much better?
How often has GVW started the year with 3 fr?

Have to dig a bit to answer your last questions, but just 2 seasons ago the roster included 4 freshman (Bowser, Carter, Sharples, Tanis)

Calvin's entering class in the fall of 1973 featured four members from Unity Christian's 27-1 state runnersup team (courtesy of one Bill McCartney). They were Barry Capel, Jim DeGroot, Mike Kamps and Mark Veenstra. Only one played varsity as a freshmen (bonus points to anyone who knows that answer ::)) and two of them (Capel and DeGroot) eventually became varsity starters.

There was alot of talk on this board and in private about how good that recruiting class was for Hope.

Just two years later the varsity contribution of that 'class' consists of Bowser, Tanis, Bunn, Venema, Dickerson........3 guys who weren't enrolled as Fr. at Hope.

I don't really know what your expectations would be........the 09 class has 4 players called up from the JV team   Ross, Dickerson, Neil, Hoffmaster and So. Nate King really should have been on the JV getting minutes last year.

While the much ballyhooed 08 class has one player who played JV ball and that was Chris Nelis who played only the 2nd half of the 08 season after transfering from GVSU.

By my reckoning, (I reckon) 4 JV callups is a lot for the Hope program

I tend to agree with your reckoing, and expect to see a Hope roster dominated by Sr's and Jr's.  Knowing the numbers from last year (jr and so)I expected to see more So's than appeared.    Almost 50% of Hope's roster did not earn a letter last year, and that just strikes me as unusual but it may be the norm.  I still expect Hope to be a very good team by the time MIAA action begins. :)
