We will never know what Hope coaches told him.

And I would like to point out that this statement is also true - and IMHO we should simply leave it at that - unless someone has actual facts to discuss.
+karma FDF.  FWIW:  The parents of a CU player heavily recruited by both Hope and Calvin indicated neither coach or school made any promises other than their son would get a chance to show them what he could do on the court.

My two cents which is usually worth nothing....

Jennings was a PG who was allowed to shoot whenever he wanted, hence the big numbers in HS.  I had been told by Midland people who watched him regularly that it was not unusual for him to shoot 25-30 times per game.

Like many hs athletes he assumed that he would walk in and contribute, if not start on the varsity because he was "really good, and as good of a shooter as anyone in Hope's program, or Calvins, Albions, etc..." by his coach, family, supporters.  He is a internet sensation on youtube albeit no defenders.

When he didn't make varsity, he was insulted and embarrassed, which I think would be natural for a very confident athlete.  Fight or Flight.  It happens all the time at every level.  Some are borderline dillusional on their abilites, not saying he is, but that is why so many kids are transferring at the hs level and college when things don't work out immediately.

I wish him luck wherever he ends up, but someone needs to let him know that shooters not athletic enough or big enough to play higher than D3 (not a slam on D3 players) are a dime a dozen.  More so than any other postion on the floor.

Albion's roster is up - looks like all of the underclassmen from last year's varsity are on the roster, plus 2 juniors from last years jv and 4 freshman

Is it safe to assume that the 14 players with numbers listed are the varsity players?

Adrian's Roster Up.  Only four varsity holdovers.  Was surprised to not see VanHoesen.

I guess you could argue 5 holdovers - as Lamar Cardenas is back with the team, after missing last season

Items of interest from the Adrian roster:

1) A Lamar Cardenas sighting. I don't think he's played since the mid point of the 2007-08 season. When he was a freshmen three years ago, I thought he was as good as any first year player in the MIAA--quick, tough and with scoring ability.

2) Nine of sixteen players are freshmen. Wow; could be some growing pains.

3) Nine of sixteen players listed at a guard spot. Wow; could be some growing pains.

4)  7 players 6-5 or over, pretty sure thats as deep height wise as Adrian has been in years.

Not a lot of new names here.

Hard to have alot of new names when you only lose 1 player but I count five newcomers  Duncan, Orns, Jennings, El and Bradley.   Dustin Orns is a transfer from Spring Arbor he was Class D player of the year a couple years ago FWIW.

I think we complete the league with Trine

http://trine.edu/trineathletics/mens_basketball/roster.cfm

Trine had no Seniors last year, but I count 4 who did not return.  Newcomers would be Jay Snyder, Ty Graham, Ian Jackson, Scott Rogers.

I may have Graham confused with someone else but I seem to recall (or believe in my pea brain )  that he was an 08 high school recruit who did not play basketball last year.   I think I saw him at an Albion game as a recruit then,  maybe I'm wrong.

If I'm remembering correctly, Ty Graham redshirted a year at West Liberty State College in West Virginia.

Oldknight and I endeavored to feel the zeel during a visit to Zeeland's Howard Miller Library this week, where a luncheon gathering of Calvin's lakeshore alumni munched happily on heart-healthy fare and were distracted during dessert by presentations from a trio of Calvin winter-sports coaches, including Kevin VandeStreek.  No spellbinding scoops to pass on, although it seems clear that KVS is delighted with his haul of talented freshmen this year.  In addition to the four who will dress for varsity games, he spoke with enthusiasm about several of the JV roster members.  He credited the VanNoord Arena as a significant contributing factor in a record number of freshman trying out for the Calvin program this fall.  He mentioned four or five JV players by name as potential contributors to the varsity at some point during their college careers.  In his typically understated way, KVS declined to say whether he would start any of his prized freshmen -- although he almost certainly will take a long look at Bryan Powell and Tom Snikkers to put in the mix with Mantel, Rodts, Veltema and Salo.  He also appeared very happy to have 6-10 Brent Schuster back after taking a year off from hoops.  Like most D3 programs, Calvin looks a little thin in the post once you get beyond pre-season All-America nominee Mantel -- and loaded on the wings and in the backcourt with lots of interchangeable parts thereafter.  The question is: how will it all mesh, and will the Knights feel the zeel come February and, maybe, March.

Thanks for the info, Goodknight.

...So I was at Van Noord arena tonight for a Calvin/Hope volleyball game....does Calvin ever plan on putting "total fouls" up on their scoreboard somehow.  Just wondering....

So I just threw up in my mouth a little...Michigan Basketball is preseason ranked 15th.

I thought I was at a game last year where they showed total fouls on the scoreboard.  I don't think the scoreboard specifically said "Total Fouls", but it seemed like it was shown.  I'm probably not remembering correctly, since my wife says I can't even remember what happened last week.
