I believe that there are four games involving MIAA teams on opening day ...

Comets open at home against John Carroll ... Game time is 1 pm ... You can follow the game via livestats at:

http://www.olivetcollege.edu/athletics/livestats/mbasketball/

Here's the Nov. 15 games:

Some nice regoinal matchups.
1:00 PM  #2 John Carroll @ Olivet
3:00 PM  #9 Wooster @ Albion
3:00 PM  Defiance @ Kalamazoo

They'll all be tough games for the MIAA guys to win, but hopefully they'll show well on the home courts.

Also on the slate:
3:00 PM  Adrian @ Saginaw Valley

45-35 JCU leads Olivet at the half.  According to the live stats, the big difference in this one is outside shooting:  JCU is 10-15 for the half from outside, while Olivet is 1-10 from 3pt range.

In fact, JCU is 10-15 from three, but only 3-18 (!) from anywhere closer to the hoop.  JCU's Corey Shontz is a big reason why: he leads all scores with 15 on 5-5 3pt shooting.

JCU 90
Olivet 83
Comets had four in double figures in scoring, led by McClary with 18.  Stats suggest the Comets were chilly from 3-point land.

Defiance 79, Kalamazoo 62

Great win for the Brits and the MIAA! Wooster should end up having a very nice year. Sounds like the Scots had a poor shooting night, but Albion is usually known for having a stout defense. I wouldn't count the Britons out after this game.

Looks like the final score of the Olivet-JCU game may not have been quite as close as the 7 point final margin, but they didn't get blown out, and that's an accomplishment against a very good John Carroll squad. McClary showed up big in the box score and looks to be ready to compete for MVP votes. I don't think OC has anything to hang their head about in this game.

1-3 is what it is, but it's one more win than I expected when the day began.

It occurs to me now that it may have been possible to catch the game in Olivet and then hot-foot it to Albion to see two good games, which would have made a trip to that area of the state worth it. But I guess its good that I didn't think about it because the wife would have hated me for dragging her (and the little one) to two games in one day. In fact, she probably wouldn't have allowed the trip anyway (darn dinners with family always get in the way).

Hope tips off with Rochester College tomorrow night.  Rochester comes in at 6-2 having just lost tonight to UW-Green Bay 77-51 down in Kent, Ohio.

4 wins vs Canadian schools, Madonna, Point Park and losses to Notre Dame, OH and UW-Green Bay.

If I remember right, Rochester finished as the USCAA I runner-up last year.  This will be Rochester's 4th game in 5 days.

The WHTC radio announcer stated that Krombeen's 10 assists was a DeVos Fieldhouse record.  He only had 2 turnovers.
