Carthage 83 Hope 77 OT

Bowser 26, Bunn 15, Nelis 14, Krombeen 12

Djurickovic 23, Pierce 20, Guzman 16

Carthage salts it away w/free throws in the final minute, lot of missed opportunities for Hope in the final 4 or 5 minutes of regulation and then overtime.

Not sure what to make of todays results.

Only the 6th loss for Hope in the 4 1/2  years at the DeVos.

According to the Hope website, it is their 5th loss at the DeVos, giving them a home record of 64-5 at that Fieldhouse.

I'd assume he was counting both the men and women - the women's team has put the men to 'shame' with only ONE home loss in all that time.

Correct, the men are 64-5 at DeVos.......only Calvin, Aquinas and Carthage have enjoyed victories on the parquet.

Final two finals of the basketball weekend

Trine 69 Purdue Calumet 62

Fr. Scott Rogers leads in scoring w/16..........some pretty interesting Freshmen in the league this year.  Big contributions early all-around.

Adrian 58 Notre Dame 53

I was led to believe Mark White liked to play an uptempo game, yet have topped 70 points only twice so far and the last two games decidedly defensive struggles.

MIAA goes a respectable 8-3 on the weekend, sweeping the MIAA/WHAC challenge and gaining a split in the MIAA/CCIW challenge (better than 70% of pollsters didn't believe that would happen).

League moves to 20-25 on the year.  Some winable games next week and some pretty tough challenges in Aquinas, Davenport and Spring Arbor.

Should point out a couple great individual performances this weekend......

John Mantel, Calvin scored 45 points, collected 14 rebounds.  Shooting 15-32 from the floor and 13-17 from the stripe.

Mike McClary, Olivet scored 33 points and grabbed an astonishing 32 rebounds also while shooting 47% from the floor.

Will Bowser, Hope netted 41 points, 14 rebounds and shot 16-23 from the floor this weekend.

If you want to combine the men's and women's records at the DeVos, the figures are 129-6, with the men currently holding a one game losing streak and the women with a 54 game winning streak!  Only loss by the women at the "D" was to Calvin during the 2006-7 season.

Let's call the Elmhurst win at Kalamazoo the tiebreaker. ;)

How about freshperson Carissa Verkaik, with 39 points and 23 rebounds . . . in one game.

I believe the Albion win over North Central ties it up!

it appears that Calvin did an outstanding job of guarding Steve Djurickovic [...] The number of games in which he's had a negative a:to ratio (he turned over the ball four times tonight) in his Carthage career can be counted on one hand.

Wow, that must have been quite something and  I'm sorry I missesd it. Did he have a negative number of turnovers or of assists?

Y'know, it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable to count steals as negative turnovers. Then, as long as you get more steals than turnovers, you could actually have a negative a/to ratio.

Better still, if you got exactly the same number of steals as turnovers your a:to ratio would be infinite, and that's pretty hard to beat.
