This version's always been my favorite, and it looks as though it's time to post it again:

I am continually amazed that man's arm never seems to tire.

There's nothing like a good karma discussion to break this board out of a 20 hour post lull.

Getting back to basketball (and trying to get to a new page so the poor guy can finally stop his equine flagellation)  nice to see that the number of Pool C bids have increased by 1 for both the men and women for this season.  Who knows, might be MIAA teams that reap that reward

That may be the case, but considering the methods used by the NCAA we might never know. :)

Calvin may have made a 61 team field last year, and almost certainly would have made a 64 team field.

I'm told that two sure signs of the onset of old age are a yearning to return to things of the past and forgetfulness--not that I would have personal experience.  Now that Greg has 1) posted the long dead horse and 2) failed to remind us of Guy Fawkes Day the 5th of last month, well . . . .

Trinity Christian is 4-8 as of now, so hopefully Calvin can take care of business and make the their record look a little less ugly as they go into Christmas break.  A lot of students will be gone and out of town/off-campus for Christmas break, but I hope to see a lot of adults come out and support the team tomorrow.

According to my quick calculation, John Mantel sits at 975 career points. A really nice game tonight will get him to the 1,000 mark!

Out of curiosity, anyone know how many 1000 point scorers Calvin's had?

Seems like Caleb Veldhouse and Dan Aultman were the last two to get the mark, but I'm not sure of how many total the school has had. Seems like a good thing to track on the Calvin sports website...

Looks like Matt Veltema sits at 740 points, so he also has a chance to get there this season. He'll need to average around 13.7 ppg the rest of the way to get it, so it's not out of the question.

Michael McClcary sits at 736 points, so he also has a chance to get a 1,000 points this season. He also has 556 rebounds.

This weekends action......

Friday, December 18
Finlandia at Alma, 6 p.m.
Trinity Christian, Ill. at Calvin, 7:30 p.m.
Albion at California Lutheran, 10:30 p.m.

Saturday, December 19
Adrian at Millikin, Ill., 1 p.m.
Finlandia at Olivet, 1 p.m.
Marygrove at Alma, 3 p.m.
Trine at Anderson, Ind., 3 p.m.
Spring Arbor at Hope, 7:30 p.m.
Albion at LaVerne, Calif., 10:30 p.m.

You have to figure the MIAA team is favorite in about 6 of these games.  Right now the league is 25-34.  Through the same number of games for each team a year ago, 22-37.   So a very small improvement so far.

My research shows that when Caleb V. went over 1,000 he was the 18th to do so.

Caleb finnished with 1,627 points, and 7th on the all time Calvin list.

The MIAA is 10-17 in regional play, which is very poor if the league hopes to get two tournament bids. With 12 games remaining a 10-2 record or better is needed to get the league over .500 in pre-conference regional play.

Calvin, Olivet, Kzoo, and Alma have combined for a solid 0-12 so far, but I am willing to excuse Calvin's loss to Hope and Olivet's loss to John Carroll. The 0-10 from Alma and Kalamazoo isn't helping anyone out.

There are two other potential in-region matchups in tournaments, Adrian/Defiance or Kzoo/Transylvania.

...at this point 10-2 or better doesn't look very likely.

MIAA coaches seem much more concerned with their NAIA record...
I'll go ahead and give it a preemptive
