pointlem-agree Venema being healthy would be a big help, especially against a team with a good big man or two.  SAU with Boss and Pickvet got to the rim rather easily and with good percentages on Sat night.  Don't know if you have seen Olivets big guys play together this year but McClary and Jennings are a load and could easily give the big two, Calvin and Hope a real challenge when the league games start.

Watching Hope's warmups, their shooting looked great as they were hitting everything, but when the game started it changed.  SAU played good defense and when they contested a shot the Hope guys seemed off balance almost startled that there was a hand in their face-they had several wide open looks that they nailed, but the contested shots were off-kilter.  After the first 12-15 minutes of each half it seemed that #4,11, and 44 were really sucking air and looked slow-perhaps a lack of conditioning?

Ryan Majerle's (Rockford HS) name came up last spring with regards to what level he may play at in college.............he's made his choice already.

Ryan Majerle, a 6-foot-3 junior from Rockford, has given a verbal commitment to Wisconsin-Green Bay of the Horizon League.

KS:.  6 of your top 25 play less than 15 minutes per game.   Why not drop to top 20, and 20 minutes per game?
:)
Sac:  One assumes the higher the OER, the better the team. :)  How does a team 4-5 rate a top ranking?   :)  Conversely does Alma with their record really deserve a better defensive rating than Trine, Olivet, or Calvin? :)

realist, I think to make these numbers more meainingful, you need to calculate the difference between a teams offensive and defensive numbers.  Doing so gives you this:

Hope (+8.4)
Adrian (+4.9)
Albion (+1.9)
Olivet (+1.7)
Trine (-4.2)
Alma (-4.2)
Calvin (-21.0)
Kalamazoo (-54.0)

I find it interesting to look at the whole league, and not just the starters (although most of these guys are starters).

Who are the top reserves that are challenging starters on their own team, and other teams, for efficiency?

I stole the 5 minute rule from John Hollinger. He uses 6.09 minutes in his NBA calcs (players on pace for 500 minutes a year), so I took 6 minutes and adjusted it for the 40 minute college game to come up with 5 minutes per team game. Maybe technically I should use 5.075.

I thought about using 7 minutes if things got out of hand, but only Brian O'Connor would be affected by that number, so I let it be.

I like to see who the top bench players are, so you know who to expect production from.  Lets face it, not everyone is Vinny Johnson, but its nice to know who to watch out for.

No one is 4-5 in the MIAA so I don't know who you are referring to........if you mean Calvin, then I would look at the offense and defensive numbers and say offense is not the problem.

Its a formula, using stats so deserve or don't deserve has nothing to do with it.

FYI. Wed Jan 06 is Calvin's 1st day of classes ... the rivalry game on the 30th is during a Thurs-Sun break at Calvin.

I do know that Calvin student tickets were sold-out the day after they went on-sale.  As Preto mentioned, it is the night of the first day of interim classes for Calvin.

So how many students take the interim/January term at Calvin?

I did go down the path of attempting to buy tickets online (I already have mine, just wanted to see what was available).  No lower bowl tickets are currently available, but upper bowl, no problem.  A request for 50 tickets returned me 4 rows of seats together.

I think you're allowed to take one interim off, so at least 75% of the students take a January class each year (the actual number may be closer to 85% though), although many are around the country or overseas. It seemed to me that in my days, the campus was at about 60-65%ish.

Hope falls to 5-4 and is off untill the Russ DeVette tournament where they'll play Madonna the first night, and then get the winner of Davenport and Grace Bible which will be a very tough game.

Do the winners play each other in the second game or is Hope an automatic to play the winner of the Grace/Davenport game, regardless what happens with Madonna?  I thought winners play winners and losers play losers but Hope is guaranteed the 8:00 game on the final night, no matter what.  Looks like the Dutchmen will need to win both games to get their record above the .500 mark at DeVos this year.

Safe travels to everyone over the holidays!
