Thanks for the link, I had no idea.  I forget what an invaluable source of imformation the Holland Sentinel can be.   ;)
If there is one thing I've learned from this board it's this: There's more than one way to split a hair.

I appear to have a single extra ticket for the upper bowl in the Hope section tomorrow night. Are there any Hope fans still in need that want to take that off my hands? Send me a message.

All four games tomorrow were regular season sweeps last year.  Adrian, Albion, Kzoo and Calvin were all victorious twice.

Albion has defeated Olivet 11 consecutive times, going back to the 2nd game of the 2004 season.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Hope v Calvin for the 174th time

Hope leads the series 88-85, and has outscored Calvin by 101 points.

This marks the 6th  consecutive season Hope/Calvin will meet at least 3 times.

Hope won the November 28th Hall of Fame Consolation game over Calvin 79-76

Not many Calvin vs Hope predictions/pre-game thoughts yet I see.  Maybe they'll all come tomorrow.

I've only seen Hope play once this season so far, so it is hard to gave too much insight, but I'll try.

I think Calvin should play well offensively and will put up a descent amount of points imo.  It is up to their defense to play well if they want a good shot at winning this game.  Although myself and others often points to Calvin giving up too many easy 3-pointers to Hope in the past, Calvin has struggled against Hope the past few times giving up too many easy lay-ups to Hope.  Calvin's ability to stop Peter Bunn and Will Bowser from easy lay-ups will be a key factor imo.  On the offensive side, I think Danny Rodts is the x-factor for Calvin on offense.  He has shown this season that he can go off on any night but he can also have a very quiet night offensively on any given night.  I've said this a few times this season, but I really would like to see Powell not be afraid to drive it to the hoop tomorrow night.

When it all comes down to thinking about this game from Calvin fan perspective, I just hope Calvin doesn't have any very long lapses of playing lack-luster basketball where they let Hope go on a 10-0 or more run or such.

Most Calvin/Hope games never have this long of break before tip-off, so it's going to be interesting to see which coach comes with a better game-plan and which team come with more fire first.  With all the negativity that has surrounded Calvin's poor play and 5-6 record this season, a win over your biggest rival can wipe a lot of that negativity away tomorrow night...at least temporarily.

I'm surprised to find out that these matchups were ALL sweeps last year. I had a very tough time doing my pick 'ems for the week because it seems like we're seeing the 'expected' 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 matchups. Should be some good games tonight.

And if anyone else is still looking for a ticket, go online and order them - as of 8:30 this morning the system could still find me 50 seats together.

Does this mean I might not have to park in Kentwood?   ;) :)

Happy Calvin Guy

According to the Calvin box office website seating charts there are approximately 270 seats remaining, mostly in the top rows of the upper bowl.  I hope both student sections bring their A-game despite Calvin just starting classes today and Hope not yet back on campus.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at a SOLD OUT Van Noord in about 9 hours!

I guess that depends on what time you show up  :)

Rare opportunity - you can buy tickets to the Hope @ Calvin game on 01/06/2010 at the link below:

https://www.ticketreturn.com/prod2/Buy.asp?EventID=49154

I doubt this is a sell-out given that classes will not be back in session yet.

So how many students take the interim/January term at Calvin?

I did go down the path of attempting to buy tickets online (I already have mine, just wanted to see what was available).  No lower bowl tickets are currently available, but upper bowl, no problem.  A request for 50 tickets returned me 4 rows of seats together.

For some reason, it would make FDF's day if this game isn't completely sold out.

Just the opposite.  I know there are fans out there who assume they can't get a ticket, since that is usually the case - at least it always is when Hope hosts    :P

The Holland Sentinel has an article about tonight's matchup.

http://www.hollandsentinel.com/sports/x1767503823/Hope-Calvin-mens-basketball-teams-meet-in-rare-MIAA-opener

In a sidebar, it is claimed that Paul Campbell has moved into Calvin's starting lineup. I doubt the accuracy of that claim. Paul did start the Loras game in place of Rodts who was suffering from the aftereffects of a shot to the nose while playing ONU. But Danny started the second half of the third game in Phoenix and I assume he is ready to go tonight as well.

Doubting the accuracy of the Holland Sentinel?  Heresy!

(actually another inaccuracy in the story said that Matt Veltema hit the three that was waved off due to the timeout being called....that was Rodts on that shot too if my memory serves me right)

Nice picture too....the angle of the picture accompanying the story shows Tom Snikkers delivering a sweet roundhouse right to the gut of Will Bowser.

Massey ratings are out for DIII basketball. Here's how the MOV-based ratings stack up for the MIAA:

1. Olivet (#77)
2. Hope (#78)
3. Albion (#97)
4. Calvin (#129)
5. Adrian (#152)
6. Trine (#248)
7. Alma (#293)
8. Kalamazoo (#346)

Pretty ugly not to have any teams in the top 75...

The CCIW is a full 9 points weaker than the WIAC this year, and the MIAA is 7 more points behind them.
