The Holland Sentinel has an article about tonight's matchup.

http://www.hollandsentinel.com/sports/x1767503823/Hope-Calvin-mens-basketball-teams-meet-in-rare-MIAA-opener

In a sidebar, it is claimed that Paul Campbell has moved into Calvin's starting lineup. I doubt the accuracy of that claim. Paul did start the Loras game in place of Rodts who was suffering from the aftereffects of a shot to the nose while playing ONU. But Danny started the second half of the third game in Phoenix and I assume he is ready to go tonight as well.

Doubting the accuracy of the Holland Sentinel?  Heresy!

(actually another inaccuracy in the story said that Matt Veltema hit the three that was waved off due to the timeout being called....that was Rodts on that shot too if my memory serves me right)

Nice picture too....the angle of the picture accompanying the story shows Tom Snikkers delivering a sweet roundhouse right to the gut of Will Bowser.

I noticed the inaccuracy too but decided to ignore it rather than get flagged for piling on.  Today's article merely repeated the Sentinel's initial incorrect report on who took that shot.

I appear to have a single extra ticket for the upper bowl in the Hope section tomorrow night. Are there any Hope fans still in need that want to take that off my hands? Send me a message.

And if anyone else is still looking for a ticket, go online and order them - as of 8:30 this morning the system could still find me 50 seats together.

Does this mean I might not have to park in Kentwood?   ;) :)

Parking in Kentwood would be a pretty good deal for you since Calvin College is actually situated in Kentwood.  A fact that several people don't seem to know about Calvin is that the campus is located in three different cities: Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, and Kentwood.

The photo in the Sentinel was clearly cropped as they didn't want to show the full shot of Holwerda bending down to pull Snikkers' legs out from under him.  You only see Snikkers as he is falling to the floor. ;)

I seem to remember some sort of land swap/annexation a couple years ago to change that situation? Anyone?

I believe this happened when the Spoelhof Fieldhouse complex plans were being finalized. The facility straddled the EGR/GR line, so the two cities exchanged pieces of land on Calvin's campus so that the new facility was enitrely inside the GR line. I believe EGR got some land that encompased the house of the caretakers of Calvin's Ravenswood guest house. The end result was that the couple's home formed a new EGR voting precinct--of only 2 people.

The campus still sits in all three cities, but the Fieldhouse Complex rests safely in Grand Rapids. (Kentwood is still at least a 10 minute stroll from the arena.)

But you get to stroll past the dorms, through the campus, and see all the beautiful Calvin coeds.  Some of you might want to arrive early and make that walk a little more leisurely.  There's nothin' like a Calvin girl.

3.5+ hours and counting.  28 folks have entered their picks, and the numbers are rather interesting

Team -- Picks

Trine -- 8
Adrian -- 20

Kalamazoo -- 0
Alma -- 28

Albion -- 10
Olivet -- 18

Hope -- 13
Calvin -- 15

Not sure if Alma has ever been a unanimous favorite by the pickers, or if Olivet has been picked over Albion by nearly 2/1.

There sure is a lot of ToneDeafness on this board on matters outside of basketball. ::) What I'm quite interested in finding out tonight is whether Andy Venema will be a factor. He has the talent but he's never been an impact player in a Rivalry game. I really don't want to see him become one tonight.

In the JV game, Hope is pounding Calvin by 20.
