RB:  Thanks for the post.  It is refreshing to hear about these games from a fresh perspective.  Sadly Olivet did beat Calvin at Calvin in early 09 so they do know how to beat the big boys.  Their problem is doing it consistantly, and really defending home court.  I look for Adrian to do a good job defending their court this year, and really thought Olivet and Alma would do that last night.
GS:  Shot blocking definitely does have the potential for some unintended and negative consequences.  However, based on a spectrum from good to bad I think most coahes and players would say the potential good outweighs the potential bad.

Don't get me wrong, I strongly dislike Hope (I'd even consider the 'hate' word)

Wiz and Stinger aside, I've never really understood this, and I wish someone could explain this to me.

Our buddy Stinger hasn't been around here in a long time.  Maybe that Kalamazoo win last night will get him posting here soon again.

And I'd have to agree FDF on the rooting for Olivet on Saturday debate.  Bottom line is Hope wants to have the best shot at winning the regular season league title, and for that to happen, teams with a better league record like Calvin need to lose.  And yes I know it is the league tourney that gets you into the big dance, but the regular season title is a very good accomplishment to have.

i watched the game on the tv   i think they need new announcers for the game they are pretty bad
i love hope  sports all of them are really great to watch

Saturday's a special day at DeVos Fieldhouse.........

http://www.hope.edu/pr/athletics/mascotphotos.html

.........this guy celebrates his birthday and will be joined on the concourse by the following friends........ "Grif" from the Grand Rapids Griffins, "Crash" from the West Michigan Whitecaps, "Oven Mitt" from Arby's, "Homer" from Home Depot, "Scoopie" from Culvers restaurant, "Kirby the Kangaroo" from the Parda Federal Credit Union, "Chuck E" from Chuck E Cheese's, and "Sparky" from the Holland fire department.

Also they will have a world class yo yo'er from Holland on hand.

All that entertainment and Hope basketball for just 10, 8 or 6 bucks.

no word on cake......

also it looks like Dutch has been spending time at the Sigma Sigma house.......

I dont know if any of you remember the movie "Dazzling Dunks and Basketball Bloopers" but if you can, Charles Barkley was in a featured highlight reel called "The SWAT Team." If anything, coaches should teach their players to "Charles Barkley it" and just grab it out of the air.  ;D

However coaches should abstain from teaching their players to "Charles Barkely it" when it comes to golf and booze cruising.  :D

I happened to be looking at this information just as you posted. A game against Alma is probably the perfect time to add something special. Maybe Dutch can gather the other mascots in attendance and finish the second half.

Something that stood out to me in the announcement:

Three years ago students at Hope College introduced a new mascot. Since then, "Dutch" has endeared him/herself to Hope fans at athletic contests and other college events.

Are we so PC these days that even a burly, bearded mascot has to be referred to with gender neutral language?

Saturday action

3pm

Albion at Trine........Albion swept both games last year.

Alma at Hope.........Hope's won 31 straight dating back to 1998

Olivet at Calvin.......these two have split the reg. season matchups the past two seasons

7:30pm

Adrian at Kzoo.........These two are 1st and 2nd in scoring defense, and 7th and 8th in scoring offense.  Over/under on total points is probably around 105

I was disappointed to see that J.J. Jumper isn't coming to the party. He must still be mad at Dutch for pushing him out of the golf cart during the Final Four. Mascot beefs are usually not pretty.

Careful now, this is starting to sound like hatred again.  Just go punch them in the nose and forget about it.

I can attest to this fact as "Big Boy" repeatedly had his head knocked off during a halftime mascot basketball game played at Crisler Arena.

The Plymouth Whalers mascot had my all time favorite mascot moment when he finally decided to attempt a shot; not an easy thing to do with flippers. Imagine trying to shoot a basketball with your arms at your side and only able to move them from the elbow.

Yes, since having that gives one home court for the tournament. ::)

I fixed your quote above.  :D
