I happened to finally get a chance to watch last Saturday's Calvin/Hope game for the first time on TV.  Relating to some of the comments from these past few days about Calvin's upperclassman, I think all-around Calvin needs to get a better job at getting Rodt's open looks and Rodts himself needs to do a better job at creating his own shot.  Rodts has the talent to creat some space.   You got to give credit to Hope, though.  Rodts tried his stutter-step a few times but Hope wouldn't budge.  Perhaps it is something he can work on in the off-season.   It'd be cool to see him get a good fade-away move going.

I can't speak for how Calvin played against Olivet because I wasn't there, but it seems Calvin's offense consisted of waiting for Hope to make a mistake on defense, and that just didn't happen nearly as much like it did in the Calvin/Hope game earlier in January.

.  I don't remember an MIAA team holding an opponent to 50 points 3 games in a row.  However, the leagues youngest team is doing so.

I'm kicking myself for not having recorded the game last Saturday. In any case, a couple of big ones this Saturday, none bigger than Hope/Olivet. I would love to be able to go to the game, but alas, a celebratory commitment prevents me from doing so. I have a hunch there will be a decent Hope contingent there tomorrow.

Go Dutchmen!

I have a feeling that Hope could have a significant crowd advantage. I would suggest any Hope fans that can make it out, come out and be ready to support the team. Word on the street is the Dew Crew has organized and is ready to be a factor in the game as well. This game is very important to the MIAA championship race and if Hope could have an essential home game in Olivet, that would be extremely important factor in the game. Let's go Hope!! Bring back the W!
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

Thanks Sac. There are some very impressive streaks there.  Hopefully, AC can add to that so they can put themslves further in the thick of the final 2 weeks of the regular season.  Safe travels to all today.  Ge Dawgs

The Saturday lineup

Hope at Olivet, 7:30 p.m. --Probably goes without saying this is big for both teams for different reasons.  Olivet won by 3, three weeks ago at DeVos.

This game has huge implications for every contender, but especially Calvin. If Olivet wins, Calvin and Hope go on to finish the season tied for first, and Olivet ends up in third place (a very real possibility) then I believe the Knights get to host the conference tourney by virtue of beating Olivet once during the regular season.

I don' understand the comment by Old Knight.  Doesn't a win by Olivet place Calvin in first by itself?  Wouldn't a win by Hope result in a continued tie between Hope and Calvin if Calvin also wins?

I believe what he's saying is a string of "ifs" -- If Olivet wins, IF Hope and Calvin end up tied for first, and IF Olivet ends up in third place.  In that case he is correct.

That's what I took from it too.

Say OC beats Hope, and maybe Calvin loses @Albion. In that case, Hope and Calvin would be tied, but Calvin would get to host if Olivet finishes third (and Albion fourth or lower).

The string of ifs makes sense.  That was likely the original intention.  Either way the original comment that the Hope-Olivet game has major implications is certain true.  How did Olivet end up with 4 losses so early in the season?  Have they just been very inconsistent?

They lost to Albion and @Calvin in the first two games, then won @Hope and later lost to current 3rd place Adrian in OT.

The losses to Albion, Calvin, and Adrian cover 3 of the losses that Olivet has on its record.  Which team was responsible for the fourth loss?  But the real point of my question is how a team which can look so strong at times and clearly has several top notch players in MM and the guard (Andre ?) can look so poor at other times.  When I saw Olivet, they appeared to be much stronger than either Adrian and Albion.  But they clearly have not played that way with any consistancy.

sac

They lost at Kalamazoo.......winning on the road in this conference has never been easy regardless of the opponent.  I would say they've played two bad games out of eight.   vs Albion and vs Kalamazoo, otherwise they had chances to win their other two losses by 4 and 1 and both on the road.

I don't really see inconsistency in their performances in conference play.

There is a certain bald ref here at the VNA for today's game

Calvin wins 73-63.  As Dougie-fresh commented, "It was not a double digit kind of game."  But they did get the hay in the barn.  Calvin had to grind this one out.  Down by 2 at the half, but got too many Trine players in foul trouble, and they could not keep up.  Mantel with 20, 10 from the free throw line, despite 6 or 7 misses.  Good job, Calvin.
