.  I don't remember an MIAA team holding an opponent to 50 points 3 games in a row.  However, the leagues youngest team is doing so.

Albion did this in 2002
1/24/04  at Alma College........  84-48
01/28/04 KALAMAZOO COLLEGE......  64-49
01/31/04 OLIVET COLLEGE.........  80-55

Hope had this stretch in 2007
01-17-07 *at ADRIAN-M...........  81-42
01-20-07 *ALMA-M................  86-53
01-24-07 *TSU-M................. 101-57
01-27-07 *KAZOO-M...............  86-48
01/31/07 *at OLIVET-M...........  79-57

Albion had this stretch in 2008........the first 3 games equal 149 points
02/02/08 *HOPE..................  56-52
02/07/08 *KALAMAZOO.............  80-54
02/09/08 *at Olivet.............  59-43
02/13/08 *CALVIN................  56-55

Hope did this, also in 2008.......the 3 middle games equal 149 points
02/02/08 *at Albion.............  52-56
02-07-08 *OLIVET................  86-58
02/09/08 *at Kalamazoo..........  74-58
2/13/08  *at Adrian.............  70-48
02-16-08 *ALMA..................  92-43
02-20-08 *CALVIN................  76-59
02/23/08 *at Tri-State..........  74-57
02-27-08  ALMA..................  75-51

Adrian's current streak.....
1/27/10  *ALBION COLLEGE........  51-50
1/30/10  *at Trine University...  51-50
2/3/10   *KALAMAZOO COLLEGE.....  59-50

And they do it again, keeping Alma to only 51 points.  201 points against over 4 games!

Just returned from the Calvin-Trine game and was delighted to see what I thought was a well-called game by the refs.  This is the first time this year that I can remember seeing the obvious fouls called quite consistently and correctly and no obvious goofs.  Hope there are many more of the same.

Trine was a scrappy team with some pretty talented players.  Calvin's height advantage really hurt Trine in the end.

Calvin played pretty good defense, but they did a allow a good amount of lay-ups.  Calvin's offense consisted mainly of Rodts and Mantel.  Calvin shot just 4 for 14 from downtown, and Veltema just had 2 of those attempts, going 0 for 2.  Veltema has to get more involved in the offense and he's gotta return to form if Calvin wants to beat Adrian  on Wednesday.

Calvin had 34 FTA, but most of Trine's fouls were pretty obvious.

John got beat up quite a bit in the post, and missed a lot of shots, but it was nice to see him stay with it and keep pounding it against the undersized Trine defenders.

Any word on why Alfieri didn't play for Trine?

maroonandgold

It's interesting to hear Trine described as having a real height disadvantage since they started a 6' 10" 280 pound center--the largest in the league.  But it is true since they drop off so suddenly from there, and apparently the big man has only been averaging  4 minutes a game prior to today's game.  Their whole game seemed to center around speed and athletic moves--at which they were very good!  Since Alfieri was there, the question about why he did not play is an interesting one.

Live stats are a big tease.  First it had the game tied at the end, then it took the points away.  Grrrr

Listening would have helped... Some score keeper was a little trigger happy w/ the jumper after the buzzer.

Hope 71 70 Olivet 69

The final score will say Hope won by two, thankfully it didn't matter (come to think of it yeah it kind of did) but the first bucket of the game by Peter Bunn was actually a 2 that most everyone saw except the men who counted.   I think Hope got a pretty big break there.  Those men had a very rough first half we'll say.

The basketball played was very good tonight, a very exciting first half with great ball movement and shooting by both teams for the most part.  Michael McClary picked up where he left off Wednesday and was pretty close to un-guardable in the first half of the game.

Hope played man-to-man for the first half of the first half, then switched to a zone which succeeded in slowing the Comets down quite a bit.  I'm going to say it was about the 10 min mark, and Hope broke a tie game into a 10 point lead.

The second half was real halfcourt slugfest with both teams seeming to be willing to run the clock down.  Sometimes this was affective other times not so much for both teams.  Hope stuck with the zone for most if not all of the 2nd half.  They won so it was a success.

Peter Bunn was outstanding for Hope, having his best offensive game in a Hope uniform, with I believe his former high school coach and team in attendance.  His offensive numbers speak for themselves but in the first 10 minutes of the game Peter was picking up Andre Evans one on one and never let Andre get going.  Overall the only difference between what Hope did tonight and Calvin Wednesday was Hope being able to defend Evans....that was an all-around good team effort.

Chris Nelis was again solid with a great first half, Olivet did a much better job on him in the second half but Nelis was out with foul trouble for some of it.  The slow down half-court game didn't seem to suit his skills.

Bench wise Neil, Holwerda, Snugeruud, Tanis and Jungling provided some very solid minutes off the bench, Tanis with a nice brief offensive minute or two and the other four were instrumental participants in Hope's zone defense.

The last couple minutes weren't particularly well played at least in terms of scoring, both teams had chances to alter the outcome of the game but just really couldn't get the ball to drop.  Joe Post's steal and layup with 40 seconds to go was either a great play or sloppy turnover depending on your perspective.

Olivet will rue its missed FT's, 2 Technical shots, and front ends of 2 one for ones and then the final nail really, missing the first of two with a chance to tie........the last desperate heave was just that a desperate heave that was nowhere near the basket and Hope escapes with a well earned tough win.

Great atmosphere inside Cutler, pretty close to tournament like, and a nice group of the Dew Crew who were their usual awesome selves.

Overall this was one heck of a ballgame and two teams playing some very good basketball.

Michael McClary 27 points, 11 rebounds
Peter Bunn 31 points, on 11-16 from the floor.

Standings  + for road win/ - for home loss

Calvin 8-2     +3
Hope 8-2       +3
Adrian 7-3     +2

Olivet 5-5      0
Kzoo 4-7       -1
Trine 2-8       -4
Alma 0-10       -5

Hope and Calvin are now tied in the plus minus......which is good because they are tied in the standings as well.  Same wins, same losses just different venues....who slips first might be the question.

Alma:  @Albion, @Trine, Olivet, @Calvin

typed this Wednesday night....Calvin holds a slight advantage with one more home game than Hope, Adrian has the toughest finish to the season and controls its own destiny.

You might say Hope now has the slightest advantage in the schedule with Albion at home vs Calvin going on the road...........Adrian begins its tough finish to the season  this week.

I bet you have to go far into the record book to find the last time Albion scored as many as 98 points vs a non-system team.

Yah you could say that again.

Did anyone notice if we did get a warning? or did the ref just give us a Technical.  I didn't see the warning.  And another thing I thought once a ref called a Technical he couldn't reverse it.  The ref called a Technical on the other team but then reversed it.
