What am I missing?

Grit, hustle, and a team-first attitude

Thanks for the insight:  I can see that MM clearly did not have the necessary criteria the first week, but did the second week.  Also that Joe P. had the magic ingredients the first week, but than lost them.  As for last week I am left to conclude that MM has now become a selfish slacker, right? :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

While I would like to think that there is a plan in place that treats each of the players on each of the teams fairly and objectively I doubt it exists.  I doubt there is even a "gentlemans agreement" on the basic criteria.   I have watched these selections for too long a time now not to realize there have to be some "political correctness" and other non-performance type issues involved.   :)
Which stats are more heavily weighted?  Points scored, rebounds, blocked shots?  What happens to the obvious stat leader whose team loses?

Week one of this MIAA season Mantel and Joe P share the honors.

Mantel in games versus Hope and Olivet 34 points, and 21 rebounds.
Joe P. in games versus Alma and Adrian  31 points, and 22 rebounds.
M M  in games versus Albion and Calvin   31 points, and 22 rebounds.
Looks like MM did reasonably well compared to the guys that shared POW.

Week Two:

MM wins POW with 45 points and 23 rebounds versus Hope and Trine.
Joe P  Had 51 points and 23 rebounds. (Hope and Albion)  Better stats, but no cigar.

Week Five:

Bunn wins POW with 41 points, and 5 rebounds versus Alma and Olivet.
MM Had 52 points and 21 rebounds versus Hope and Calvin, and once again a guy with better stats (against tougher competion) is ignored.

Can anyone explain how this supposedly well thought out "weights, and balances comparison of performances" thing really works? :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I used only 3 weeks, and 4 total players to do my brief comparison.  What am I missing?

I think the team that the POW played for went 2-0 for the week in the examples you used.  I don't know how K did when Joe P won with Mantel.

Michael McClary with 22 and 8 at the half... this guy is a beast. OC's up 43-34 on Trine

Calvin's up 35-31 on Adrian at the half. I had trouble with the Calvin broadcast so I listened to the Adrian call for the first half and I came away impressed with the quality. Kudos. This game looks like it could be a fight to the finish. Calvin's lead most of the way, but it's close and Adrian isn't going away.

WFUR's sub announcer is doing a nice job.

How does he feel about Hudsonville Ice Cream? Any suitable replacement surely would have mentioned it by now.

Kalamazoo not going away.  Has cut a 18 point half-time deficit to 6 now. 62-56.

Does anyone know if Prepolec got hurt in the Hope - Kazoo game?   He's only played 16 minutes and has just 5 points.  I don't see his name listed at all in the 2nd half play by play.

Andy Venema had another fechnical foul tonight.  2 games in a row.  Could he be the Rasheed Wallace of the MIAA?

The other league games must be finished.   What are the final scores?

Olivet 91 Trine 73
Hope 85 Kazoo 63
Calvin 78 Adrian 67
Albion 69 Alma 49

Calvin got four players in double figures. Veltema lead the way with 15, he now needs 54 to reach 1,000. Rodts had 14, Mantel 12, and Salo chipped in 10.

The Bulldogs have shot 16 for 65 combined in two first halves against Calvin this year. That's under 25%! They're 42 for 132 from the field against the Knights overall.

interesting game at Kresge tonight--Albion shoots 70% in the first half en route to a 30 pt halftime lead.  Then shoots 21% in the 2nd half including only 5 FG in the final 18 minutes, and backs into a 20 pt win

McClary with 37 points, 12 rebounds!   :o

Those are dominant numbers. Before tonight McClary was averaging 20.7 ppg and 11.1 rebounds for the whole season. I didn't figure out his MIAA numbers but I imagine they may be higher.

Who was the last MIAA player to average a 20-10 season?
