Aaron Winkle will reunite with members of the 1999-2000 championship team Saturday for a special tribute at halftime of the Calvin-Kalamazoo basketball game at Van Noord Arena

Sounds like Saturday will be a lot of fun. It would be great to see a big crowd and some student creativity, like wearing a banana costume.

Or even an unscripted cheer or two   ;D

# Player introductions: During Hope player introduction, a double clap followed by a single clap. For Opponent a circular arm motion with an emphatic 'who cares.' There is also a player/Dew Crew huddle.
# Game tip-off: A Dew Crew leader will shout 'Who's house?' and The Dew Crew will reply 'Our House.' Then the whole section will chant 'This is our house!' Followed by jumping up and down and shouting for the tip.
# In game cheers: "Here we go Dutchmen, here we go ," "Dutchmen 5X," "Dutchmen Defense," "D-D-D-Defense," Rowing: Some row on water, we row in our section. The Dew Crew sits down, places hands on the persons shoulders in front of you, and rows away!
# The Three Man: A appointed position to a freshmen student who celebrates each 3-point basket.
# The Sub Ref: Everyone sits down and 1 designated person with a referee jersey stays standing, while everyone points and yells 'Sub.'
# Free Throws: Hope: Silent, with spirit fingers. Opponent: "Left, Left, Left... RIGHT!" Opposing player foul out: The air lassoe with noise followed by 'See Ya' as the player sits down.Crew

Free ice cream after the game I am pretty sure!

How will this affect my halftime ice cream?

Yup - anything creative like those would be a surprise from the Calvin students.    :P

There will be at least one pretty good team that doesn't win a conference tournament game and whoever wins it will have earned it, even if it comes on their home floor.

And there will be at least one pretty good team that doesn't get to play any tournament games at home.

...Unless 5-8 win in round one  :D

Bite your tongue!!  This the MIAA, not the WIAC

The OAC would be a better comparison in terms of yearly topsy-turviness than the WIAC.

I would suggest the Calvin Student section stick with their tried and true "where's your banner?".  To which the National Championship team will turn and point to their well deserved banner, proudly hanging next to the extra.  Should be a beautiful celebration. :)

Checking on the Calvin Men's basketball site today I noticed they have  posted links to Calvin's 91-92 championship team, and the 00 team as well.  For those who never got the chance to see Gugino, Honderd, and some of the guys from the old days there is some great footage there of some classic Calvin Hope games.

After the worst officiated game I have witnessed this year, Olivet drops another close one to Adrian.  Seems to me that the Comets tend to play to the level of their opponents.

Calvin defeats Kalamazoo, 86-59.  Calvin built on the lead from midway through the first half and dominated the second half, up by as much as 32 before the end of the bench was emptied.  Kalamazoo had too many offensive rebounds in the first half, which kept it as little close.  Mantel did a good job on Joe P, especially in the 2nd half.  Now to Albion...

Given the current MIAA standings, you must be saying that Olivet played better than usual today.

I had to take time off my hiatus to give you +k for that one

........also it makes a better argument complaining about officiating if the other team didn't shoot fewer FT's and have more fouls.......and the other teams best player and best big man didn't foul out of the game either.

Albion leads Hope 50-45 at the break. Wow, it's not often you see Hope's defense give up 50 in a half. The Flying Dutchmen are shooting 17-28 but Albion appears to be controlling the boards and shooting well from the arc (5-11). Venema with 16.

Too bad the game's not at a technologically advanced school.  ;)  It'd be nice to watch a video feed.

I missed Bryan Powell's "Dunk" today due to some serious lagging. I heard the crowd roar and that announcer say 'flush.' However the next trip down at a stoppage I heard a fan yell out, "Its okay Bryan, we'll count it as a dunk." LOL  :P

What Calvin students??  I'm embarrassed as an alum of that school for the student support that the team gets. I counted 24 students in the student section today at tip off.  There needs to be a change in culture, I think, for the incoming freshman, but I'm not sure how you can do that.  That amount of support for a team that is tied atop the standings is a disgrace.

As far as the game went, Calvin dominated the whole game except for a short stretch in the first half.  High scorer was Bryan Powell with 18, and the best part of the game was when late in the second half he managed to just dunk the ball on a fast break.  Looked like he even surprised himself with his hops.  Afterwards, he looked up at the big scoreboard, looking like he was expecting a video replay.   ;D

Nice tribute at halftime for the 2000 team.  They played some video highlights and showed some camera still shots from the Final Four to "One Shining Moment" and then introduced each of the players.
