Wow; KVS just blistered the officiating crew in the postgame. I don't know that I've ever heard him that upset.

Although Calvin won't win both the mens and womens MIAA league this year, it's worth noting that Verkaik scored 46 points tonight on 18 for 20 shooting. That must be some sort of record.  Go Knights!!!

That's two MIAA records, most points in a game and most field goals in a game. Possibly another MIAA record as well, for best field goal percentage (min. 10 shots) although I can't find those stats.

Also the most points scored in a DIII women's game so far this year.

These records go with Carissa's most blocks in a season and most blocks per game average records, for at least 4 MIAA records in this her freshman year.

I agree, every time I see Albion play they basically dare the refs to foul out every one of their players in the first half.  In order to avoid making a mockery of the game, the refs have all kinds of rough stuff go.  This style of play comes back to bite them when they give up 20 points on free throws in the final 7 and a half minutes to lose the game.  I love to see it go down that way--I don't believe it's "aggressive" defense, I think it's borderline dirty, and good basketball prevailed tonight.

I'll just copy my comments from the first Calvin-Albion game this season.  Kudos to KVS for telling it like it is on the postgame interview.

Going from a 19 point lead down to a 3 point lead will do that to a coach.   :)

In a related story, tonight Holland MI dropped out of the top 5 happiest cities in the nation.

Just 22 points left for Matt Veltema to reach 1,000. With at least two games to go, he's in great shape to get the mark.

Wow, Hope out-shot Adrian 52% to 42%. Adrian apparently picked up the win on the strength of a 14-rebound advantage.

Friday night of the MIAA tournament should have 2 very competive games.

I think someone mentioned that on the women's board.  ;)

Adrian Hoops Fan

And from the Merillat.  Adrian won with their intensity.  Defensively, Adrian kept Hope off balance by contesting every shot.  And as mentioned above AC was relentless on the glass 36-22 for the game it was a 20-7 edge at half.  But the biggest factor of the game was AC used their athleticism to get to the rim.  They did not settle for the 3 and it paid off big as they got to the stripe for 26 free throws.  Matt Wayne was unstoppable in the post tonight and Hope didn't have an answer for him.  Great all around game by 2 very good teams.  It looks like this will be a very interesting tournament this year as the top 5 teams all have the potential to win it.

Powell, Campbell and Schuster come off the bench and go 11-15 tonight for 28 points.  Campbell and Schuster also combine for 13 rebounds.

It's interesting to hear a report directly from the Adrian-Hope game since the stats are somewhat misleading until you see the rebounds.  Hope appears to have shot the lights out with their shooting percentage, but lost so heavily on rebounds that they did not have nearly enough shots.  It is also striking that the starters played such heavy minutes and only 1 sub scored if I read that correctly.  Doesn't GVW  have any confidence in this bench when it really comes down to a tight game?

He is assuming Hope would beat Trine.  He stated he thought Adrian would beat Kalamazoo.
