Apparently you folks in GR base your happiness solely on winning basketball games.  We've got lots more to live for and be happy about in Holland   ;D

True. This Holland couple looks pretty happy:

oldknight

When oldknight was youngknight, he was the unwilling recipient of instruction from his parents on matters pertaining to Dutch language and culture. Among his lessons was the proper meaning of the word gezellig. It was mentioned that the word really had no English language equivalent but several terms were given as possible choices. Oldknight does not remember "sour grapes" being one of them. ;)

I hate to be nosy, but has anyone heard rumor about Hope upgrading their condiment dispensers?

If they could make that with Dutch's head, it would be absolutely perfect.

Of course, you need a red one from which to dispense mustard, too.

Holland Sentinel article about last night's game:

http://www.hollandsentinel.com/sports/x1685912091/Flying-Dutchmen-suffer-costly-loss-at-Adrian-look-to-rebound-at-home-Saturday

An eyebrow raising quote is reported in the Sentinel article:

In the [Adrian] Daily Telegram coach White speaks of both Calvin and Hope as programs of where he'd like Adrian to be at some point. There are several references to BOTH Calvin and Hope. Here's how the Daily Telegram writes the quote being discussed here: "It's a great accomplishment to win this game for a lot of reasons under some adverse conditions," White said. "Hope is the best team in the league, the best program — Calvin and Hope have been for years. They are definitely an example of where we want to become."

Here's the link to the article: http://www.lenconnect.com/sports/x1135182253/Adrian-College-mens-basketball-team-knocks-off-MIAA-co-leader-Hope

Regardless, and as already discussed here, Congratulations to Adrian and Coach White not only for their victory over Hope, but for a very fine season. Reading the Daily Telegram article one can NOT possibly take coach White's comments
as any sort of slam on Calvin.

The Holland Senile strikes again.  As a daily reader of the Senile, I always run a filter between what was actually said and what the writer of the article said was said.  This also applies to any statistics given in an article.  This morning Alan Babbitt stated that the Flying Dutch were 23-1 overall and 15-9 in the MIAA.  One of the reasons Holland is so happy is that we get to guffaw each morning over what is printed in that day's newspaper.

Congrats to Calvin for winning the MIAA title outright,

In everyone's minds that is probably true, but technically Calvin has to beat Alma this Saturday to clinch the title outright.  Just sayin'...

Or a Hope loss to Trine would do it, too

I'm sorry, but if Calvin can't beat Alma this weekend, they don't even deserve the share of the MIAA that would give them.  I mean, Alma lost to Oberlin for crying out loud.  Need I say more?  :P

Everyone who follows the MIAA understands your point completely.  Every Hope fan is HOPEing that the Knights approach Saturdays game with that exact attitude, and we get an Al Michaels moment....

Oddness

Hope's going to play Trine in the first round of the MIAA tournament, in the previous 9 MIAA Tournaments Hope had played Alma in round 1, the only time they didn't play Alma was in 2004 when they had a first round bye.

Kalamazoo in 2000 was the last time Hope opened with someone besides the Scots..........in fact its the only time Hope has had a first round pairing vs someone other than Alma.

........of course this gets thrown out the window if Alma somehow pulls off the near impossible and beats Calvin Saturday.
