Thanks

I'm an ex-AAU club coach of Scott Rogers and fan .... and hence my biased opinions.

I'll be watching this board and the NCAC board next year as my son will be playing for Oberlin starting in the fall.   Before you take a shot at Oberlin, they were 2-0 vs the MIAC this year!!!  Just kidding, just happy to be able to watch some great schools compete.

Best of luck to all the teams in the tourney.

Don't be afraid to bring your Trine biased posts in here. We get waaaaay too much Calvin and Hope and not enough from the other schools. (Although we've had some nice Adrian representation here this year.)

The regular season finale....

Saturday, February 20
Trine at Hope, 3 p.m.
Kalamazoo at Olivet, 3 p.m.
Alma at Calvin, 3 p.m.
Adrian at Albion, 7:30 p.m.

Not a lot of intrigue today other than the Olivet/Albion battle for home court in the tournament (unless you really believe Alma has a shot to beat Calvin).  Olivet just needs to win today to get the 4th seed and host Albion. (Unless Alma wins and Hope ties Calvin for the title......then it gets screwy, but thats not happening so lets not worry about it.)

Interesting that the home team got beat by the other in both the previous matchups........maybe hosting isn't all that great.

Albion 84 Olivet 71 @  Olivet
Olivet 73 Albion 65 @  Albion

.....to make it even more fun, both Albion and Olivet lost their previous encounter with today's opponents.

What does the Calvin/Alma game have to do with Albion/Olivet?

1. Calvin
2. Hope
3. Adrian

Olivet clinches 4 seed with a win (wins tiebreaker over Albion via wins over Calvin and Hope in case of 1st place tie)
Albion clinches 4 seed with win AND Olivet loss. Otherwise 5 seed.

6. Kalamazoo

Trine clinches 7 seed with win OR Alma loss.
Alma clinches 7 seed with win AND Trine loss.

For the record I'm a big fan of what Scott Rogers has done in his first season........what gets overlooked is that he's basically put Chris Mislan, a fine looking Fr. from last season for Trine on the bench.

Statistically, I believe he's having one of the best Fr. season's in MIAA play in recent memory.  Probably the biggest impact Fr in this league in the past decade was Jeremy Veenstra who average 15.2 points and 7.3 rebounds for the full season.

Rogers is averaging 12.7 pts and 5.7 rebounds.

Other noteable Fr.
Veldhouse 13.5 pts, 2.5 rebs
Mantel  7.2 pts, 4 rebs
Cramer 9.6 pts, 3 rebs
Reimink 3.6 pts, 2.8 rebs
DePree 3.6 pts, 4.8 rebs
Phillips 7.8 pts, 3.4 rebs

4 of these 6 went on to win the MIAA MVP award.

This is even more impressive when you figure that this was on a VERY stacked Calvin team that played the stiffest competition possible toward the end of that season.  ;)

Welcome fsant :)  Few fr. make the All MIAA team, and those that do are very special.  It is very hard for any serious fan of MIAA b-ball not to like Rogers, and his playing ability.  One of the criteria I use to determine these post season honors is to ask the question if I would want the player on my fantasy team.  With Rogers the answer is a resounding yes, but he might not be a starter.  If he continues playing for Trine the way he has started I am sure he will be getting lots of attention.

You are very correct when you say we are going to see more from many of these players.  When I started going over the stat sheets, and starting to compare playes I was surprised by the disporportionate representation on the part of this year's JR class.  In almost very statistic 50% of the top performers were JR's, and they easily out distance the SR class.

Sr. Scott Jungling getting the start for Hope over Krombeen.

Trine is going with 4 Fr and a Soph.  Alfieri and Weir not starting.

Strange!

Halftime around the league

Olivet 37 Kzoo 30

Hope 31 Trine 17

Calvin 34 Alma 33

Schuster really stepping it up down the stretch for the Knights.  His 2 free throws in regulation were clutch

sac

Alma missed its last 8 three-point shots in regulation, and made just 1 FG in the final 8+ minutes
