I couldn't listen to the game last night.....

Did the Dew Crew and Calvin students show up for the game?

The Dew Crew was there - a small but vocal force that arrived about 7 minutes into the game - due to the bad roads.  I could sense a difference in the game when it goes from a relatively quiet affair, to the chanting of the Dew Crew.  For me, it was like the game switched from being on a neutral floor to it being like a home game for Hope.

The Calvin students were there with good numbers.  What I remember is that they cheered well when the game was close, and when Calvin made several big baskets.  The best student interaction of the game for me was when Joe Post from Olivet made a nice move to the basket to score, and then shushed the Calvin students on his way back down the floor.  They booed Joe every time he touched the ball for quite awhile .

They also had a period during which they maintained the ariball chant, but not as regular and for as long as the game on Wednesday

Often the 'airball' chant is ended once the shooter in question hits a shot. It was haphazardly continued afterward in this case.

One should never expect too much from "inexperienced " fans. :)

On second thought that should read, "curious bystanders". :D :D

As for the officiating:  :-\  Never helps when two of the guys are late and Ray Kelser and that other guy

That other guy was Merlin Nice.  He was Wabash's National Championship team in 1982.  That championship game was played at Calvin.

Wiz is right about Powell changing the momentum when he came in.  Calvin scored 7pts immediately.  Powell had 5 of those and he had an assist on the other 2.

Schnyders did a nice job tonight.  He gave Calvin  a lift when he was on the floor.

Matt Veltema was very good in the second half.  3 huge shots from the baseline and fouled on a fourth.  He also did a nice job rebounding.

Calvin also did a great job on McClary.  He had a stretch at the start of the 2nd half but for the most part they limited him.

Salo a big 3 to put Calvin up 4 at the 2 minute mark and 2 freethrows with 16 seconds to go put Calvin up 4 again.

It was also great seeing Carrie Snikkers  wearing a maroon Calvin Knights T shirt.

When I saw Carrie there, she was wearing a blue Hope Basketball shirt. Unless she changed shirts at some point, I don't see how that can be.

She put a blue sweathirt over it but still keeping the maroon and gold close to her heart.

I'm not a coach, but if I were KVS, I'd tell to get the ball low into Mantel's hands as much as possible.  Good things seem to happen when the ball is in his hands, such as players getting open.  I would, though, like to see more of cutting to the basket when Mantel has the ball for the easy lay-up.

Also, Bunn seemed to be shooting well last night from deep-range from what I saw, so someone might want to consider putting a hand in his face whenever he touches the ball.

I would first send out the Calvary, then have them call for Fire Support from down range!!!

... or the cavalry, since I'm sure that both Hope and Calvin will assure you that they have Calvary on their side. ;)

Hope up 3 at the half. Calvin got down 14 pretty quickly but fought their way back in. Mantel started having his way a bit after Venema and Nelis each picked up foul number 2. Veltema scoreless at the half.

Hard to tell from the internet video but it would appear that every 3-ball that Trent Salo has hit has been with a man right in his face.  Some very impressive shots and Calvin needed everyone one of them thus far.  Couple minutes left and a tight finish in store.

I'd like to hear from someone that saw the game in person but this seemed to be a very well played game. Congratulations to both teams.

Congrats to Hope.  Strong at the free throw line down the stretch.  Does Calvin and the MIAA have any chance for the Pool C bid at this point?

New projection comes out tonight. We will start looking at the numbers sometime soon.

Calvin was 0-7 from 3 point range in the last 4 minutes, including one possession with the score tied at 72-72 where I believe they had 4 shots, including 3 from beyond the arc and missed all of them.   :'(

Veltema was 1-10, including 1-8 from beyond the arc.   :'(

Now the Calvin fans just have to play a waiting game.  Wooster did win today, which does help.

There are emergency crews on site at these basketball games, right????  I hope so, because a couple refs almost needed help for asphyxiation from swallowing whistles.
