Ziggy and I also went through the selection process last night and we also had Calvin as in. I think the link in my sig is still good, if you want to check it out. No margin for upsets today though.

For the sake of the seniors on Calvin's team, I really hope you're right.

calalum

Good luck to Hope in the tournament run and to Calvin in trying to get in.

A great game played by both teams tonight.  They both played very hard and it ended up as another classic Hope v Calvin game.  Did anyone else notice the great creativeness of the Calvin students in "stealing" the Dew Crew's cheer.  I thought it basically summed up the season from a student fan standpoint and made me laugh more than anything.  Best of luck to Hope moving forward.  There's nothing better than seeing two nets cut down on the same day with Calvin looking on!

The one the Dew Crew "stole" from the football student sections at Penn State and Wisconsin? I did notice that and I did chuckle a bit, I thought it was funny and well timed.

Actually, I like to think the Calvin student section just borrowed it from the Dew Crew.

I thought it was parody, though others might count it parity or parroting. ;)

I just thought it was great that 1/3 the number of students could outshout the other guys.

Last night was simply another truly amazing chapter in this wonderful book.  Sometimes I wish they could simply play each other 25 times a season because the game never disappoints and it never gets boring. Hold Rodts and Veltema to,I believe, a combined 8 points and it's still close?

One comment about the fatigue factor brought up earlier.  One of the reasons Hope looked "fresher" in my opinion was the fact that even though the starters have logged big minutes, their last 4 games prior to last night were against adrian and trine, 2 time hoarding offenses that really didn't force Hope to play hard every second defensively.  When a team holds onto the ball for 25-32 seconds each posession, it's like dozens of mini timeouts during play.

I too noticed the joy when tanis checked out but didn't think much of hit because it was during an emotional high of the game. But I did notice his longer than normal embrace with Dav during the celebration and it was quite touching.

It was the best performance I've seen out of Mantel.  He was a stud and left it all on the floor.  Hopefully he gets another game.

I am always so impressed by the players and their demeanor, before, during, and after the games.  Both rosters are filled with classy kids.  Sure there's some fist pumping and chest bumping but its never anything out of line.  helping opponents up when knocked to the floor, etc...

That's been the case for years in this match-up, so I don't know why that is that big of a surprise to anyone.

KnightSlappy, I believe you know what you're doing.  But it's interesting that KVS believes there is basically no shot, and you think there's somewhat of a shot if there's no upsets in other league tournaments today.

wasn't a surprise, I just thought it was great and always have.  Hope's student support makes me happy.

It was also great that despite the 1,000 warnings to stay off the floor, AD Timmer and the security staff stayed out of the mix and let Hope have their deserved celebration on the floor.

I wanted to tell him afterwards I appreciated that, but he looked mad.

as an aside warning fans to stay off the floor while showing a picture of fans on the floor on the scoreboard is probably not very affective. :D

PS -k for posting what I did is also lame, and has been the case for years and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.  (I also know it wasn't goknights68)

We're not the only ones, Pat has them in on his projection. In our defense (and Pat's), I doubt KVS has analyzed the numbers and simulated the selection process like we have. I wouldn't guarantee a selection, even without any upsets today, but there is a chance.

I hope Calvin does get in.........the finished product of these two teams has turned out pretty good.  I think if both teams could go back and replay the first 10 games of the season, the results would probably be a little more favorable.

With that said though eventually the criteria does get down to overall record.......nine losses is alot for an at large bid,  coupled with a 1-3 record vs ranked opponents are two big negatives.  The raw numbers might look good, OWP, region win % etc but its going to be close and I think those who have tried to figure it out are right to say Calvin is either one of the last to make it in, or probably on the table at the end.

If it comes to overall record and results against non-d3 then that is secondary criteria and Calvin's win over Carthage will be a positive. There is a lack of quality wins once you get down towards the bottom of pool c, which works in Wheaton's favor as well.

In the first 10 years of the MIAA Tournament, Hope won 3 Championships all as the host school and regular season champ and had a record of 13-7.  6 times Hope was bounced in the Semi-finals most of those, if not all, as the higher seed.

In the last 9, Hope has won 6 Championships, 5 of those on the road, with an overall tournament record of 21-3.  Only once has Hope lost in the semi's as the higher seed.

My goodness how Hope's fortunes have changed in this post-season tournament.
