Somewhere out there in this great land of ours, a heartsick AndersDY is sobbing in front of his computer. ;)

I was out and didn't get a chance to get on all day, but now that I've tried catching up, he has been smote. I think he confirmed his non-alum status, but just in case I better even things out. Also brought to you by tCOW:

Arthur Holly Compton, Physics (1913), Nobel Prize-winning physicist, Member of the National Academy of Sciences, former Chancellor of Washington University from 1945 to 1953

Donald Kohn, Economics (1964), Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of the United States Federal Reserve.

George Fitch, Economics (1970), politician and business consultant, cofounder of the Jamaican Bobsled Team, which debuted at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta

Duncan Jones (aka Zowie Bowie or Joey Bowie), Philosophy (1995), British film director Whistle (2002), Moon (2009), son of rock musician David Bowie.

Timothy Smucker, Economics (1967), CEO of The J.M. Smucker Co..

See, it has to be good. Oh yeah, and Yale stole the IS idea from us.

Too bad Hope will have to wait until the championship game to settle my allegiance-splitting matchup with Woo.

I usually enjoy selection day whether Hope's in the tournament or not.......but not today, this has been utter nonsense on about 100 different levels.

To be fair, we Scots stole it from Princeton.

In the interest of having a board that people want to read, I've deleted what was perhaps the dumbest conversation I've been involved with here.

Sorry to those who had to witness it, I'm sure they got a good laugh or two out of it.  I did.  Persistence is one thing............if you must know it was a continuation of whatever bug, Pat had over me today.

anyway, if anyone has a problem with me deleting about 20 posts not worth reading or ever thinking about again contact the management.

Today's a new day.

I did contact the management, and management did something about it. Hall of Famers no longer have the ability to delete posts.

Don't worry, Sac.  I won't re-post that one youtube video that you deleted a few years ago  ;)

I was flipping through the pictures on my digital camera today and found out that the wife took a bit of game footage from Saturday's championship contest. She's my designated filmographer in case some last possesion heroics are in order.

She apparently decided to record a couple of Calvin's late possessions (despite my urgings that it was not necessary). So here's the two clips she caught (and I'm not trying to re-light any fires, just thought it was funny):

Of course we all might be wearing different color glasses than neutral observers, but I talked to a few guys that were sitting right under the basket.  They said Mantel easily got hacked.

Did your wife also happen to be at the 2006 NCAA tourney second round Calvin/Hope match-up and be taping the last half minute as well?

1. From 500 feet away, with Nelis blocking the view of the play, you're suggesting this video is proof of a hack?
2. The Holland Sentinel had a video of this play on their website Sunday, and I watched it quite closely. The video was taken at floor level but I couldn't really tell one way or the other if Bunn hacked Mantel. I did notice that the ref, who is pretty close to the play, immediately signaled it was a clean strip. In general, I get frustrated when that play gets automatically whistled, as it typically is. I also noticed on the Sentinel's video that it appears that Venema gets cleared out by Mantel. I looked at that repeatedly but honestly couldn't tell whether he did or not. Venema's reaction makes it seem like he did, but unless John is REALLY strong, it looked like a pretty minimal push with his forearm.
3. It certainly looks to me as if Venema is over Campbell's back. I had a different angle live, and I thought it was at that time too. Not sure it affected Campbell's shot though.

Toward the end of a close game, as our anxiety rises, we are more inclined to do two things: 1) perceive fouls made against our team; and, 2) think the fouls and subsequent points matter more. In fact, a point toward the end of a game, and thus a foul toward the end of a game, has no more value than one at the beginning or middle. On that point, there are moments prior to the last minute where Hope fans could squawk also. I thought the blocking call on Bowser against Snikkers with 5-minutes left was as bad as could be. The only relevant question, I think, is whether over the course of a game the court got tilted in the favor of one team or the other by the referees. I think it would be hard to make that argument from Saturday's game. I thought Friday's Calvin-Olivet game was as badly officiated game as I have seen, but I don't think it was to the advantage of either team. I thought Saturday's game was reasonably officiated, and the mistakes pretty much evened out. The fact that they may or may not have missed something that would have been to Calvin's advantage toward the end doesn't matter. A mistake at the end is no more egregious, and no more dispositive to the outcome, than one in the middle.

Feel better, Master Coleman?   Is this the old Pat or new Pat?

FWIW - here is probably the best look we'll have at the strip by Bunn.

And I suspect we will still not all agree about it.  I have heard from several sources that Mantel said he was not fouled on the play, but I do not have any proof of that.
