Great HS game in Hamilton tonight.  Holland Christian beats East GR 92-85 in OT"s.  Colin Voss (CMU) recruit with a technical foul in the 2nd OT.  Simon Van Langeveld made 4 free throws (2 for a foul and 2 for the T) and then buried a 3 for 7 HC points.  EGR got it back to one but HC held on.

New Orleans will eventually become in region since they are moving from DI down to DIII!

Pat Coleman

And the administrative region rule added a bunch, though as for most schools, admittedly, these are probably only feasible for Thanksgiving or holiday tournaments.

Doesn't help much when half of your "in-region" opponents are over 400 miles away

Pat Coleman

I felt like I addressed that in the second half of the sentence.

D3hoops.com All-region teams are up:

McCleary and Bunn are both first team.  No mention of Mantel.

Pat Coleman

And because the question comes up, Mantel was definitely nominated, was named on at least one ballot, but not enough to outdo the other guys in the frontcourt.

If it wasn't for administrative regions and the 200 mile rule, the closest non-con in-region would be Heidelberg at 230 miles.

Maybe more in-region games would result in more in-region ballots casted for the Knights?

Seems like a reasonable assumption. It's all a matter of gaining exposure by playing other teams from the region, since it's the Great Lakes Region SIDs who vote on the selections.

An attack on the system and natural geography, not you.

Pat Coleman

Wasn't taking it as an attack, just wanted to emphasize my stated understanding of a touchy subject of MIAA scheduling.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but John Mantel will be playing in the NABC All-Star game in Salem this weekend. Pretty cool honor for a great player.
