Boy, you said it. In fact, I took as my screen name the one that's printed on my birth certificate. How hokey is that? ;)

(I was originally going to respond to Knightmare's assertion by stomping my foot, but this doesn't appear to be a good moment in the MIAA room's conversational flow for that particular strategy.)

You call this a flow, Gregory?  I call it seepage winding its way toward becoming a cesspool.  It's pre-season, after all. ;)

:D :D  Greg, at least you use your name.  Think of the rest of us that forgo our own names in favor of the curious assortment of selections you see as screen names.  Everybody can just blame it on their parents  ;D.

Sure, I call it flow. I simply chose not to put my fund of goodwill and my tolerated-neutral status at risk by pointing out the feculence of said flow. I'll leave it to someone more intrepid than I to play the role of MIAA room Roto-Rooter. After all, we all know what happens to karma here when the skeptics turn septic. ;)

And when the feculent and the petulant posters collide, the scatological sediment really splatters.

I love when these posts become a contest to see who can use the longests words in the dictionary....not all of us are that recondite  ;)

DePauw is the final team in the Elmhurst Classic, joining Elmhurst, Calvin, and Benedictine. DePauw is in-region for Calvin. No word on the matchups yet.

That should be a very solid tournament. I'm looking forward to seeing at least Friday night's opening round.

DePauw had a similar season to Calvin...finished 20-8 and lost in the SCAC Championship game which kept them out of the D3 tournament.  They played and won both of their contests with Albion and Adrian by 5 and 12.

The Tigers graduate 3 starters but return their top 2 scorers......Like Calvin they appear to be returning the majority of their team.

You would figure Elmhurst would schedule Benedictine for both the in-region and 'easier game, pairing DePauw and Calvin together.

Not crappin' anyone when I confirm the earlier Stephen Bell speculation that Mitchel Vallie is headed to Calvin.  Vallie gave his verbal commitment about a week ago.

Granted Calvin is losing only 2 starters, but it's 3 sr's from this season accounted for 43% of the scoring, 40% of the rebounds, and played 37% of the minutes.

It's baseball season so I'm thinking Sabermetrics (or APBRmetrics, since we're talking basketball, which I probably will attempt to apply to the MIAA next season, but probably fit poorly in the college game).

I wonder what Paul Campbell's VORP and WAR would be? The tricky part would be establishing replacement level in D3 basketball (maybe we can use Alma's numbers? :)). Just to take a wild stab, I would guess his WAR might be in the 0.4 range, which would indicate he wouldn't be extremely difficult to replace. Mantel and Veltema's WAR numbers would be another story.

+k for anyone that can develop a PECOTA model to forcast future MIAA production using JV (or even HS) statistics.

Paul Campbell was listed as a senior but he has eligibility left. I'm told by someone I trust that Paul has said he will be coming back in the fall and plans on playing one more year. If so, that's good news for the Knights. I thought Paul really made progress on his game and I expect that he will start next season.

That is interesting news about Campbell.  It certainly would make matters easier, especailly in the pre-conference games, to have another person with his experience available.  In fact not having to replace him really does change the dynamic considerably if you factor in his picking up even 5 or 6 minutes a game.

Given that Campbell averaged over 19 minutes this past season and got the most PT of any non-starter, I'm pretty sure he's expecting to play more than 5-6 minutes a game next year.
