That is probably true. In light of that I think it will be quite interesting to see who comes out of this whole process. If coach Neil comes out of this process as the head coach it will be hard not to ask why it took so long to make the hire that was always right in front of the committee. Thank goodness Hope only hires a coach every 30 years or so. I'm not sure if our anxiety levels or this board could handle this discussion on a yearly basis.

Also going back to the faculty member vs. coach debate that has occurred before. The more time that has passed the more I can't help but think, shouldn't Hope College really be concerned about hiring a basketball coach first and foremost? It's my understanding that Wheaton College's head coach is a full time coach and I imagine there are at least a few other D3 schools that use that approach. If there is a group of schools in D3 that should have a full time coach Hope (along with Calvin) have to be at the top of that list.  Hope and Calvin have been in the top 3 of D3 attendance for 20 plus years. In fact, on average Hope outdraws something like 100 D1 schools each season. I am not suggesting I think Hope has suffered as a result of GVW coaching and teaching for so many years. But maybe an opportunity to take a new approach is being missed. Just a thought.

It's hard to tell without emoticons, so are you being facetious in that next-to-last sentence or do you actually believe that GVW's successor will be Hope's coach for the next thirty years?

That was definitely facetious. GVW was coach for over 30 years and before him Russ DeVette was at the helm for approximately 20 years. Based on the names being discussed I don't think the next coach will be around for 20 years, let alone 30 plus. That said I did see a scenario where if Chad Carlson was the hire that at 29-30 now he would certainly have been in a position to make it another 30 years. Doesn't seem like that will happen though.

Hope played Cornerstone tonight and lost (not close in the end), sounds like everyone was there except Will Bowser.  I think I've been on record here that I think C'stone will be very good next year.  If not, I am now.

The Holland Summer League is down to 4 teams, Hope, Cornerstone, Calvin and a team by one of the Gugino's.

Looks good, but can be play D?

After watching that video I'm wondering why he got no love for any of the all-state teams.  At the least he should have received an honorable mention from the Free Press.....unless I missed it.   Injury? or what?

Its not like Goodrich doesn't get good exposure over there.

If he does you can scarcely blame him.  Hope hires a new hoops coach about as often as Russ' changes its menu. :-\

Great little story, especially if you are familiar with Springport, pop 600 or so.  They had a bar that once collapsed into a hole in the ground next door.........

Quote from: CCIWFAN6 on June 07, 2010, 04:28:13 PMTo say that the final out of the ninth inning is the same as the final out in every other inning is simply not true.  The game ends after the 27th out, not just the inning unlike the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, 18th, 21st or 24th out.

You missed the point I made to Chuck. The rulebook says that the third out of the ninth inning is the same as the third out of the other innings in terms of how the inning functions (i.e., there are no additional batters in the inning).
