"Men's Poll Results (First-place votes in parenthesis): 1. Hope (6) 9 pts. 2. Calvin (2) 14. 3. Olivet 17. 4. Adrian 28. 5. Albion 30. 6. Kalamazoo 38. 6. Trine 38. 8. Alma 49."

Did the coaches know about Bunn's serious injury before voting?  Hard to believe that Hope would rank # 1 with the uncertainly about Bunn, a critical part of Hope's team and its leading scorer.

Without hearing a medical opinion I doubt they even factored in one player being out for an indefinite period.  Since it is an MIAA "pre-season" poll all MN would have to had said is something like "Mr. Bun has suffered an injury, and at this time we anticipate his return by the time conference play begins.  Ditto for KVS on Salo.  Even with Bunn out I think Hope is still the favorite

I agree. I think the spread would be a lot closer between the top three teams, and maybe Olivet picks up a first place vote or two, but I think Hope would have still been on top.

Interesting to see a potential Calvin opponent (De Pauw beat) a D-1 team.

FWIW:  KVS in his comments said Calvin tried unsuccesfully to schedule another "in region" D 3 school but couldn't make it work.  That is why you find Davenport on the schedule this year.

Come on dude... You know they are there! Ya just can't see 'em.

Plus streamed lined this year. No AD, Equipment mgr., Trainers, and the sort, of years past. Just coaches, assistants and Robbie.

Alma scrimmaged and beat the CMU club team handily. The funny thing is, I didn't recognize any of the players who were playing large chunks of time.

And... Hope's Men's Soccer team defeats Olivet earlier this afternoon, 2-0, to clinch the MIAA Men's Soccer Title.

Actually, Calvin also won today, so Hope shares the MIAA championship with the Knights. Hope does get the automatic bid to the national championships.

Thanks OC SIC - that is correct. Hope clinched a "share" of the MIAA Men's Soccer Title, but won the tie-breaker which allows the Dutchmen to represent the MIAA in the NCAA Tourney.

I'm guessing that Calvin gets in as well, but I don't understand Pool C in hoops, let alone soccer.   ??? ;D

OC_SID

From what I have heard, Calvin has a good chance to land a Pool C bid. They did not lose any non-conference games and played some good teams in those games.

sflzman

From what I am hearing now, it's likely that the MIAA gets two teams in for Men's and Women's soccer...
