From what I am hearing now, it's likely that the MIAA gets two teams in for Men's and Women's soccer...

Alright, I heard from a member of the selection that Women's Soccer will probably only get 1. Two teams below Alma in the Central won tournaments, and AQs, and also somewhere else nationally a team that is 4-14-3 won their conference's AQ...not looking good for my Scots

And... Hope's Men's Soccer team defeats Olivet earlier this afternoon, 2-0, to clinch the MIAA Men's Soccer Title.

Actually, Calvin also won today, so Hope shares the MIAA championship with the Knights. Hope does get the automatic bid to the national championships.

Thanks OC SIC - that is correct. Hope clinched a "share" of the MIAA Men's Soccer Title, but won the tie-breaker which allows the Dutchmen to represent the MIAA in the NCAA Tourney.

Does anyone know how this is calculated into the Commissioner's Cup?  Do Hope and Calvin share the points for the top spot for men's soccer, or does Hope get the points for first and Calvin get points for second, due to tiebreaker?  I assume that for women's soccer, Alma gets the Commissioner's Cup points for first place, even though Calvin won the automatic bid in the league tourney....

They are declared as co-champions, the tiebreaker is only for determination of the NCAA AQ.

Soccer (Men)
The championship shall be based on a point system which awards three points for a win, one point for a tie, and zero points for a loss. League standings shall be determined on the basis of total points accumulated in regular league play. If two or more teams tie for first place at the end of the season, they shall be declared co-champions. The regular season champion will receive the league's automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

The info I posted is based on season totals.  I'll rerun them based on conference only as well.

Calvin gets NCAA tournament representation in men's and women's soccer, and volleyball.  Hope in volleyball and men's soccer.  Alma women's soccer unfortunately left out of the NCAA tourney.

Now if we could only get a Pool C bid for the MIAA in men's hoops one of these days......

I must be missing something.  Hope played 29 games last year.  1 game went to ot. for 5 minutes.

5 players X 40 minutes = 200 minutes x 29 games =5800 minutes for the games, + 25 minutes for the ot. for 5825 minutes.
How does Hope come up with 8296 varsity minutes in 1 year?

Calvin's returning players had 3506 minutes pt. last year for and this is 62.1% minutes returning.  Calvin played 28 games, and 2 ot. for 5650 minutes floor time.

My guess is that is career minutes at the varsity level, not just from 2009-10 season?

I think that's total career minutes of varsity experience for the players on their roster, not just last year.

Thanks, I sort of came to that conclusion, but the minutes returning just used last years pt. :)

I will take Calvin's 5227 varsity minutes over Alma's 5416.   :)
Obviously the coaches don't weigh varsity minutes that important as Adrian is polled at #4, and has considerably fewer varsity minutes than lower ranked teams.

The reason I report it that way is to give an idea of the amount of playing time at the varisty level that exists for each team (aka varsity experience).  Without that, you might assume that all Sr's have more experience than all So's, which of course is not true.
