I understand the connection for the first comment about Neil getting MIAA MVP for soccer, but most of the last week has been soccer discussion.  We are a week away from tip off, this all seems to be topic for another board of some kind.

Beware AHF, you do not want to go against the grain on this board.  Go with the flow, agree with everyone, always comment that the coach is correct because he knows more than you even if you have vast hoop knowledge and experience, all players are good both on the court and off, insert pic or someone beating a horse or condiment bottles, and most certainly- always say something positive about Calvin or Hope!

And whatever you do, don't suggest a basketball related topic for discussion. Just voice displeasure and fade back into the background.  ;)

I may have to delete half of that one....

This board has been treated as kind of the home base for MIAA discussion if you will since this is where the regular contributors and readers seem to hang out.   From time to time the topic will stray to other sports or happenings regarding the league, usually during periods where there isn't much basketball to discuss.

fwiw, I posted the link to Logan Neil as MVP because he also plays basketball for Hope.  After that there were a few posts from others voicing their displeasure with the selection.

I was just happy for the kid, its not often you get a two sport athlete these days, and one who was named MVP in one of them.  That kind of stuff happened in the 50's and earlier, but not much these days.

Interesting side note.  Logan and his father (Matt) are the only Hope father/son pair to have both won an MIAA MVP (Matt was the basketball co-MVP in 1982).  Does anyone know if this is a first for the entire MIAA?

What wins the MIAA, 2, 3, 4, 5 losses? Anymore scrimmages on tap? Updates on rosters, rotations should be set for the most part, surprises, whispers in the dark?  Checked out the Calvin blog recently...........NICE work.

I'll say 3 losses takes the league. I really don't see Hope losing four games. Calvin and Olivet will be fighting in the 9 and 10 win range. I think all three have a chance to win the league, but right now it looks to me like it's Hope's to lose.

I think the league in general will be squeezed toward the middle as compared to last year. Except Alma. They're probably still in the 0-1 win range.

This year the MIAA should be quite interesting and a week before tip-off each team has many questions going forward:

Hope- Are they gonna go through many changes in philosophy offensively & defensively with Coach Neil and how long are they without MIAA mvp canidate Bunn?

Calvin- With the loss of Mantel and Veltema is Rodts ready to lead this young team?

Olivet- Obviously Michael Mclary makes them a contender and their performance in exhibition last week shows they are gonna be tough.  But can they maintain the 2 month grind through the MIAA to surpass Hope or Calvin?

Adrian- Very young team academically.  But who will replace Matt Wayne in center? And how do all of their freshmen from last year grow and mature on the court? And will we see more consistency on the offensive end?  I wasn't at BGSU last Saturday, but holding a D1 to 51 points sure does show that they will be tough defensively again which puts you in every game.

Albion- Looks like a rebuilding year for them but we all know they are never down and always a contender, aside from Cruse who else will step up?

Trine- How will their super frosh  (Jackson & Rogers) from last yr hold up to elevated expectations this yr?

Kazoo- Not looking good after losing Clark & Prpolec and then a tough showing in exhibition.

Alma- Can't keep a coach or their top players from yr to yr. Do they win 2 games this yr?

Both of those players are on the Kazoo roster - in fact Prepolec is only a JR.

And both played in the exhibition against WMU. Did they get injured?

My bad. I didn't double check roster, I could of sworn both were sr's last season.

Keeping a coach - Alma or MSU? You pick....

I definately see 2 wins, this Freshman class is very good...I definately say there is a good chance of starting 2-1, if not 3-0....IU-NW is an interesting one, but neither Madonna or UM-Dearborn are all that good. Remember, we won the MIAA/WHAC Classic last season....

PU-Calamet is another interesting game that we could win, and there's the 2nd game against IU-NW. I also we will beat Finlandia, and I'm sure we won't go winless in the MIAA...I see a win against Trine, Olivet, or Kalamazoo. Maybe even Adrian...

Steven Bell's list of players who signed letters of intent yesterday to D1 or D2's.

One name not on that list is Ian Drobish from Greenville who signed with Cornerstone.

Boy, what a whiny post.

For the record, I've done my best to try to find a pic of someone beating a condiment bottle, just to change things up, but I guess that all of my vast hoop knowledge and experience aren't paying off in terms of finding the proper search engine.

Let's see ... uh, something positive about Calvin or Hope ... OK, let's try this on for size:

Calvin and Hope: They're not only great schools, they're great names to give to your twins if you have a boy and a girl!

Those games smack of coaches trying to build their resumes (i.e., easy wins) rather than trying to prepare their teams for the conference grind. IU-Northwest has never been even close to respectable for as long as I can remember, and the RedHawks have started off this season 0-4. Purdue-Calumet has gone 6-23, 3-26, and 8-19 over the past three seasons, and the Peregrines have begun this season with a 1-2 record. Finlandia's never wowed anyone, either.

Beating the condiment bottle is not recommended:
