Leave the turf, and come on inside! It's time for another NCAA basketball season! The MIAA tips off tonight a 7:30. Kalamazoo at Defiance, and IU-Northwest at Alma. Women also start with Kzoo and Adrian in action.

Alma has 3 projected starters out for tonight's game, Weiss, Brown, and Erickson. They're are gonna be expecting a lot from freshmen if they want to win tonight.

Despite what I have been told on this board, I have learned that IU-NW has 1 d2 transfer and 1 d1 transfer on the roster this year and are expected to be a solid team this season....

Injuries?  Those would seem to be 3 pretty significant players for Alma

With apologies for discussing something non-basketball, I noticed that the Volleyball National Championship game is set to be played on Sunday at WashU.  Should Calvin win on Friday and Saturday, then what???

According to the Calvin Sports Report emails sent out by SID Jeff Febus, the National Championship match would be moved to Monday.

From the weekend...

Valparaiso 111 IU-NW 64
Indianapolis 102 IU-NW 89

They are now 0-6, solid may be relative, they'll pick up some wins towards the latter half of their schedule when they start playing bible schools.  I think they'll beat Alma tonight though.

Not to bring up an old subject, but any more word on Peter Bunn? While as a Calvin fan it doesn't hurt me to hear he won't be playing for a bit, as a person however I definitely am hoping for the best for Pete.

Kalamazoo vs Defiance will have video tonight if anyone's interested
http://www.defianceathletics.com/video/

Defiance has a really young team with no Seniors, and 6 Freshmen.  Not quite the same outfit that won the HCAC Tournament last spring and made the NCAA's.  They've been picked to finish 6th in the conference.

Defiance will also play Adrian in a few weeks, and could possibly face Albion in their Tournament in late December.

One additional game tonight - the Hope JV will be playing @ Grace Bible at 7pm.

Hope is preparing as if Peter will not be available this season.  If/when he is able to return, there will be some time before he will be at "game speed" and roles/player rotations will be changed accordingly.

Definitely struggling to come to grips with this Calvin fan vs. person distinction.

Sac:  Thanks for your work on the non-conference numbers.  Not sure how other feel, but the numbers are, what the numbers are.  They really are a leading indicator, and it points to overall conference strenght.  Frankly, looking at the various non-conference schedules 45 may prove to be overly optimistic.  The conference is a mix of very young/inexperienced teams, and some that just aren't great even if they have experience.  Perhaps several of our teams will prove stronger or gell quicker than we anticipate, but if they don't it could get real ugly. :) :)

Calvin/Hope/Olivet/Any other MIAA fans with Pool C aspirations need to be rooting especially hard for the Hornets tonight. The in-region non-conference games are a huge deal for conference strength of schedule.
