Congrats to Alma on winning their first game in the new gym.

At that Alma game....we looked solid in the first half, still a first game so you know what they're like, but in the second half we made a game A LOT closer than it had to be...

On the bright side, we had two freshmen step up and get 10 boards, one (Brett Lackie) got a double-double. The Scots had that old Shepherd high connection going, Lackie and Silverthorn both picked up a combined 45 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and only 1 tournover.

This IUN team was much bigger and more athletic, but we out rebounded them 47-38 with smaller guys...2 returning starters, Tommy Erickson (who I have heard was out with a broken bone in his foot) didn't dress, and Terry Brown was kicked off the team this past week...

All-in-all it was a win, and the team looked pretty good for how young they are, but they still have room for improvement before MIAA play. I definately think we can win back to back MIAA/WHAC Challenge titles...

Today's lineup........link to livestats and radio at miaa.org, radio for Olivet/Aq can be found on the Aquinas website http://www.aquinas.edu/athletics/mens_bball.html

Albion at Ohio Wesleyan, 7 p.m.

OWU is picked 3rd in the NCAC, coming off a solid 20-7 season.  Albion beat OWU by 10 at home last season.  Another important in-region game for the league.

Davenport was picked 2nd in the WHAC.  The Panthers are 4-0 but have played 3 Bible colleges.  Not the easiet season opener for the Knights

AQ is picked 4th in the WHAC, currently 2-2,  they are coming off an OT win over  Spring Arbor

Trine at Franklin, 7:30 p.m.

For those of you interested, KnightSlappy has a thorough preview of the Calvin/Davenport matchup on his blog.

Could someone repost a link to that blog...and if there are others?

Here's the link you can save to your favorites if you wish:

It has earlier blogs worth reading including a summary of the Ferris game that is pretty fair for someone who didn't even go to Wink Arena.

KS- Just looked at your blog, really enjoy it. One thing I will point out though after glancing at your season preview, Rietema should be back by early to mid-December a few days prior to the Trinity match up, at least from all the reports I've heard. With Salo being out till most likely Christmas, it will make things pretty interesting in regards to PT. When both are back, both will have been out of hoops for a while. I have heard KVS is pretty interested in having Rietema back especially after the kind of summer he had and it would be nice to have a big PG alongside Salo, especially since both Brink and Powell are natural SG's, though they can plug holes until the natural PG's are both back in action. Regardless, the Knights will have a tough team once all the parts get put together.

Hopefully my post does not ruin any credibility that KS has built up so far.  :)

I'm ruining my own credibility on a daily basis, so there's never much built up.  ;D

I just checked out last year's Massey ratings for Calvin's opponents for the pre-conference season. The schedule is nearly relentless. Only Trinity Christian looks like an easy win.

Of course, this year's teams may be quite different from last year's teams. But according to last year's numbers, Calvin should come out of the pre-conference season with a 2-7 record if all games go the way Massey predicts. (Well, maybe 4-5 if you add in home-court advantage).

Who is making the long trek to DU for the game tonight? I'll be there loud and proud.

Interesting poll question.  Looking at the various team schedules, and Massey etc. I am curious what makes anyone think the MIAA will do better in non-conference action than they have the past 2 years?   ???

.432 35 and 38 wins.
