I know many will disagree but I just don't think it's helpful.  Enough said.

Nothing written on this board, a blog, or a newspaper is actually helpful to a team, is it? These spaces are for fans, not players or coaches.

Grading out the Knights:

Not so sure this is an appropritate route to take with these young student athletes.  Certainly not after one game.

Sorry to offend anyone.  I tried to keep everything pretty positive and since a good number of Calvin fans probably weren't at the game, I thought that folks would be interested in how the guys looked, individually as well as collectively.  My grades were based simply on last night's performance and not on the players in general.  Either way, I can refrain in the future if this type of post is frowned upon. Again, sorry.

Something tells me that today's practice with KVS was just a touch tougher than anything HCG wrote on this board.

KnightSlappy, your Calvin blog is terrific . . . reminds me of what Titan Q does for Illinois Wesleyan.  Interesting insights, cool stats, and good writing.  Keep on.

HCG, I was at the game as well and your analysis was spot on. I think Brink deserved a little higher grade but thats just me, other than that, well done. Keep up the analysis, the majority of us appreciate your input and don't see COLLEGE PLAYERS (regardless of division even though I guess D1 players are more mature than D3) as children who can't take criticism.

29 for sure  matchups 7 more maybe's,  16 involve Trine or Kalamazoo...So root hard for the Hornets and Thunder.

Pretty amazing that 2 teams account for potentially more than half of all in-region games for an 8 team league. Kalamazoo particularly proves that it's possible to schedule more in-region games. I've always taken the position I'd like to see Hope and Calvin particularly schedule more in-region games and this just reinforces my opinion.
Tribes of primitve hunters, with rhinestone codpieces rampant, should build pyramids of Chevy engines covered in butterscotch syrup to exalt the diastolic, ineffable, scintillated and cacophonous salamander of truth which slimes and distracts from each and every orifice of your holy refrigerator.

You're missing one key ingredient...Hope and Calvin's records.  It is, in fact, more difficult to schedule in-region games if your potential opponent feels that the game could result in a loss for them that could affect a potential pool c bid.  This continues to be a struggle.  It's not that Hope at least (can't speak for Calvin) isn't trying to get those games scheduled.

I may be wrong (it DOES happen! ;)), but I'm dubious that any of the Chicago-land schools would be 'ducking' you.  You already play Wheaton, of course, but have you seriously tried North Park, Elmhurst, North Central, Aurora, etc.?

North Park is a possibility for Calvin. The Knights are playing at the Elmhurst tournament this year, and North Central and Aurora are out of region.

KnightSlappy

I posted it last year, but it's a yearly discussion, so it's always relevant. Calvin's possible in-region opponents.

Mr. Ypsi

KS, I would think Aurora must be within 200 miles - am I wrong?

Aurora is 214 without using addresses, and since Aurora is West of its city center and Calvin East of Grand Rapids, there is no way they are closer.

Since Aurora is right on I-80 (while the others are north), I guess I underestimated how far west it was.

Still in-region for Hope. ;)

At one time or another Hope has played all of those teams Chuck, sometimes the open dates don't work out.  North Park hasn't played Hope in a number of years now, but they were one of the original four teams in the whole CCIW/MIAA challenge discussions started 7 years ago.  I forget why NP decided not to participate.  At the time Carthage was believed to be in-region for Hope......then things got 'technical'.

Hope is playing Lake Forest, Dominican and Wheaton all from the Chicagoland this year.

There is no easy button for scheduling.

Mr. Ypsi

Granted that scheduling is always a two-way deal, but it seems that every time Hope (or Calvin) needs a pool C, their lack of in-region games comes back to haunt them.  My interest is in getting the MIAA more than one team in (Olivet?  Albion?  etc., you listening?)  The overall MIAA needs more in-region games (wins, of course! ;)), but Hope and Calvin (as the perennial leaders) seem to be the worst offenders.
