Hyphonated teams are almost always bad, especially those you've never heard of until now.

Yep. Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Wisconsin-Whitewater stink like week-old fish. ::) :D

What is a bone spur?

A bone spur (osteophyte) is a bony growth formed on normal bone. Most people think of something sharp when they think of a "spur," but a bone spur is just extra bone. It's usually smooth, but it can cause wear and tear or pain if it presses or rubs on other bones or soft tissues such as ligaments, tendons, or nerves in the body. Common places for bone spurs include the spine, shoulders, hands, hips, knees, and feet.

What causes bone spurs?
A bone spur forms as the body tries to repair itself by building extra bone. It generally forms in response to pressure, rubbing, or stress that continues over a long period of time.

Think your team has offensive firepower? Consider West Liberty University, a Division II school and West Virginia's oldest institution of higher education.  Acccording to a short article in today's Wall St. Journal, the team, known as the Hilltoppers, has scored 311 points in its first two games for an average of 155.5 points per game.

They won those two games by a combined 174 points, making the average score 155.5 to 68.5!

Looks like West Liberty is playing something that resembles Grinnel's system ball.  They were ahead 14-0 barely 2 minutes into their first game and led 86-24 at the half.   At one point the score was 64-8

In the 2nd game, they were ahead 16-2, 2 minutes in and led 98-42 at the half, to their credit the starters did not play the 2nd half.

WLU and Lock Haven are D2, Point Park is NAIA.
WLU averaged 100 points per game last season but it looks like they've ramped things up a little.

UM-Dearborn 77 Alma 75

In one of those stars aligning kind of moments, former Alma player Jordan Reditt knocks down the clinching FT's in the final seconds for the Wolves first win.

Alma had a 15 point lead with 14 to go.  Sharples and Redditt both had 18 points for UMD.

Out of towners that want to talk some Calvin basketball but don't want to clog this board can join me at http://tomaroonandgold.blogspot.com/. The slappy one is at the game and chiming in via twitter.

Trine 90 Miami-Hamilton 69

Tim Pearcy 15, Noah Veach 13, Ian Jackson 12, Scott Rogers 11, Randall Harris 10

Widener 62  Adrian 47

Ray Reed 12, Jovon Mosley 10

Ryan Scott (Hoops Fan)

Adrian loses to Widener by about 15.  Widener threw a lot of bodies and pressure at them and Adrian didn't have the depth to match up.  Adrian is very young.  The guards are very physical, but the bigs are pretty soft.  When the coach got passed his top seven some of the guys didn't even know the plays on offense.  Still they played hard; there's a good foundation on which to build.

I'll ask again... why are so few recent lake shore graduate players attending Hope?  How does Veach end up at Trine?  A very nice d3 player goes to Angola for an education major?  Nothing against Trine at all, quite honestly i really like a lot of what they do on the floor, just seems strange when one of the the nicest, most well attended fieldhouse in the country is in your backyard....

FWIW, Calvin is quite sloppy at the moment but I love the tempo.

tough loss but a great game that will only make them stronger once the "real season" begins.  I viewed from a rather pedestrian sized laptop so it was hard to tell at times who was doing what but it looks like Snikkers is their best post option offensively at the moment? They had serious issues whenever Grace trapped on the wings and an experienced veteran pg (Salo)definitely could have helped.  Powell must have scored his early because he didn't do much the last 25 minutes or so.  I like Brink a lot but he had a couple costly errors coming down the homestretch but him simply being on the floor speaks volumes.

Kudos once again to the Calvin blog, top quality.  I may be attending more Calvin games than normal this season, they will be fun to watch.

And they hurt like a "Son-of a Gun!" I've had foot surgery twice to remove them. It felt like I had a small stone in my shoe when I walked and some mornings when I got up the pain was pretty bad that it was quite challenging to walk. They're not fun. The Cortosone (sp?) shot in my heel to help "reduce" the pain was almost as bad! But once they were removed, life was much better!!   ;D

I have heard nothing pleasant about them either.  I'd like to think that Coach Neil was misquoted about Jared's "shin" spur because his injury last year was nowhere near the shin "area".  What I'm reading in the paper differs from what I'm hearing from the basketball family, so we'll just have to wait and see how his injury and potential time missed will play out.

Grace Bible 64 Calvin 63

A Ryan Krombeen layup in the final seconds wins it.  Two in a row for GBC over Calvin.

Albion 72 Kenyon 66

Siebert 14, Hutton 13, McDonald 12

Olivet 94 Madonna 79

Michael McClary 38 points, 13 rebounds

League goes 3-3 tonight (IMO it should/could have been better), now 7-7 overall

oldknight

I attended tonight's disappointing 1 point loss to the Bible Tigers of Grace College along with the inestimable Mrs. Oldknight--fresh from her excursion to the Windy City. She rates the charms of Chi-town not to be worthy to be compared with those to be found at home.

As for the Knights, well, let's say they are the opposite of the church at Laodicea. Thus far this year they have only waxed hot or cold. When they are good they are a lot of fun to watch and when they are bad they can be head shakingly bad. There has been little play in between those extremes. The talent level at Calvin is evident, they just lack the experience to win games down the stretch--games veteran teams win.

Quite honestly, other than Durham I think Calvin had equal or better talent at every position on the floor but the Knights couldn't execute when they had to. That is largely due to the fact that with Salo down, they are a little thin in the backcourt. They even had Snikkers playing some point guard which he is capable of doing but I hate to see KVS pull his best post scorer out of the blocks.
