A disappointing outcome for sure, but a vast improvement since Tuesday. Will post more later from a real keyboard.

Calvin      33      AQ   17   at the half.
Sounds like two teams with lots of young players still trying to figure things out.
Not sure if the AQ score is Calvin's defense or just cold shootiing and to's.  Kruis is getting some pt, and it sounds like he is handling it well..

Sounds like the AQ offense is indeed very bad.

Calvin  61   AQ.  44    Well, it really didn't get better.   Calvin out to a 24pt lead, but managed to fritter that away without scoring for over 5 minutes.  Calvin managed to get guys into foul trouble, and forgot they really need to rebound.

Well at least we dodged the dreaded Calvin/Hope consolatoion game.   :)

KVS was pleased with the defense especially in the 1st half.

And at least it's because Calvin won and Hope lost.

Looking ahead to Sat. Calvin is going to have to do a better job rebounding, and will need to cut down the turnovers if they want to have any chance against CU.

My guess is Hope will see a much bettter shooting AQ team tomorrow.

The knights' defense took another big step forward today. This team has the quickness and size to execute VandeStreek's defense effectively, and they really shut down Aquinas, until the Knights eased off a little in the second half and in the last 10 minutes especially.

This team again showed some flashes of how good they could get. Now all they need is some consistency!

Hope looked strong too and made it a close game vs. a very good Cornerstone team.

It's hard to know if Calvin's defense was that good or if Aquinas was that bad. A little of each I suppose but I did notice the Saints' three point shooting this season has been poor--only 25% for the year going in. I haven't seen a stat sheet yet but I don't think AQ's performance against the Knights did anything to raise that number. Calvin's offense wasn't exactly clicking tonight and they still won quite comfortably. It's a bit of a head scratcher to know that Olivet lost to Aquinas because the Saints didn't look like a very good team. Calvin will definately need a better game tomorrow to compete with Cornerstone.

There certainly was a large contingent of D3 hoops finest posters in attendance. I think I even detected some who don't root for Calvin seated directly behind the Knights' bench for the late game.

According to the box score, Andy Venema did not play.  Is there any non-speculative information about his condition, or is this a question that can only be asked of the coaching staff?

Those early in-region games may be more likely to be harmful for inexperience dreams, or teams that play a complicated defense that takes 10 games and 25 practices to learn...

True, but it's better than playing NAIA teams which have had even more practices and games to that point.

I spoke to Andy's grandfather yesterday and he was expecting Andy to play today. He didn't think Andy's late game injury in the Davenport game was much of anything so I was quite surprised to see Venema in street clothes when I got to the game.
