MIAA update through games of 11/28:

Team     Pwr09    MOV    SOS   Pwr10  Change
Adrian    -2.1  -10.3    1.6    -8.7    -6.6
Albion     1.5    0.2    0.0     0.2    -1.3
Alma     -12.9    7.0  -12.5    -5.5     7.4
Calvin     4.6    7.8    6.9    14.7    10.1
Hope       5.3    0.0    9.8     9.8     4.5
Kazoo    -12.2  -14.8    1.3   -13.5    -1.3
Olivet     3.3    6.5    1.3     7.8     4.5
Trine    -10.3    7.8  -10.3    -2.5     7.8
------
Wheaton   10.4     15   -2.6    12.4     2.0
Carthage  12.5   10.2    0.2    10.4    -2.1

Pwr09 is Massey's power for last year. SOS is the opponents' average Massey power last year.

Trine and Alma are looking stronger than last year. Olivet is looking up after strong games against Case Western and John Carroll.

Hope is playing stronger than last year, despite the injuries. And Calvin has taken another step forward, now playing like a D3 top-10 team.

The Wheaton and Carthage vs. Calvin and Hope games next weekend should be great games.

[edited to account for Olivet's game today]

One year ago, following the Hall of Fame Classic, the MIAA was 9-22, this year the league is 15-17

This is encouraging!

KnightSlappy

Olivet trails John Carroll by 1 at the half, 35-34.

1:30 to play, and Olivet leads #18 John Carroll by 8.

And the game finally goes final. Olivet wins 86-79. Big win for the Comets and the MIAA. Good work guys.

What region is Kenyon in?

Great Lakes just like the MIAA.  Kenyon is in the NCAC.

Then Albion  is 2-1 in region.  OWU and Kenyon are their wins and Heidelberg is their loss.

Good catch.  I am sure the guys will adjust their numbers as soon as they see your post. :)

Indeed, 8-7 it is.

Olivet 86 John Carroll 79

Looking at the boxscore I wonder if JCU is playing the same system they have before.  That seems like a lot of minutes from their starting 5.  No matter what style was played, Michael McClary had himself a bigboy game with 32 points and 14 rebounds.  Andre Evans 21, Jaren Edsall 17

I don't know what JCU's home record is over the past few seasons but I have to think its pretty rare for a team to go into the DeCarlo Center and get a W.   As the league races shake out it will be become more clear what this win means, but most likely this is at least a road win vs one of the OAC challengers.  A very nice win for the Comets.

FWIW, JCU beat Carthage to start the season.

BogeyMan

Olivet is officially a contender for the MIAA.  If you only knew what is like to play in the DeCarlo Center!  One of the most difficult courts in the Great Lakes.  It hard to beat JC at home when they are bad, let alone when they are good team.

Monday's only game

Alma @ Lake Superior State

This will be Alma's first game in 10 days, so they've had time to stew over their loss to UM-Dearborn.   Shaking off the rust vs a heavy D2 favorite seems like a long, long way to drive in November.   LSSU is 4-1 and very young. Former Olivet coach Steve Hettinga must miss D3, this is the Lakers 3rd straight game vs a D3 opponent.  Albion hung in there with them but I don't suspect this will be very close.

Knight2Day

Not to push any buttons (which I'm sure I will), but I'm not necessarily impressed by Hope's win over AQ. AQ is severely down and after watching the Calvin v AQ game, Calvin probably should have beat the team by 30. It's still going to be tough for them if they don't get Bunn back any time soon as I believe he's the Jesse Reimink of this years squad.

Not meaning to take anything away from Krombeen or Bowser as they both are quality players and I believe big time leaders for that team, but Hope is going to be much more mortal without a healthy Bunn in their lineup. Not to say they can't make a run at the MIAA, but I think Calvin is on a much more expedited upswing than most would have expected (including yours truly) and Olivet is just plain going to be tough to beat especially on a good night. Still in the "preseason" though and I'm sure this weekend will continue to tell a lot for each of these squads.
