One aspect to the MIAA that I think fans of other leagues envy a bit is that the fans of the perennial top two programs get to see so much of the other top two team and thus get familiar with them. This coming weekend in Kenosha, Hope and Calvin fans will get the chance to see each other's bete noire two more times, on the heels of two other chances to watch them in the HOF tourney this past weekend.

Nobody else in D3 has that sort of opportunity to see so much of a primary rival without going out of their way to do so.

I made a slight reference to my thinking on the matter earlier.  It will pay huge dividends down the line.  After 3 games it's obvious again that their strength and depth is at guard (little surprise I know).  As the preseason wraps up, we shall see how they and their rotations continue to evolve.  ;)

A side note.... Had the pleasure of sitting next to a Calvin couple on Friday ( they really knew their hoops!)and we struck up some hoop convo.  They asked about the "new" 2 pg system and I mentioned that this rumor needs to be put to rest because its not entirely true

Hope has used a 2pg system for the past 2 years so its not exactly revolutionary.  Bunn was a pg his entire life, he played pg on one of the top AAU teams in the midwest, was recruited by several mid/high major programs....as a pg, he was given a full-ride scholly to play pg and was the backup pg at Oakland his freshman year.  I believe he and Krombeen qualify as a 2pg back court.  Now if the 2 of them played with Overway, a 3 pg system would be really cool, and for all intensive purposes- Bowser played pg in hs too.

Surely, this must be a wry tribute to Dr. Rumack, Leslie Nielsen's character in Airplane?

So.....we're putting to bed your own rumor that someone else pointed out wasn't entirely true.

Even from Alma, that's a long way to go for an a$$ whoopin'.

Alma begins the 3 hour 40 minute 230 mile journey home....just about as far to Ada, Ohio and Ohio Northern for the Scots.   I hope the kids from the UP and Northern Michigan had a chance to play in this one.

It occured to me while keeping track of this one that many years ago we probably would have had to wait for the sled-dogs to make it back to base camp before getting a final score......but tonight I could watch it live if I wanted from the comfort of my 'office'.

More fun on Saturday for the Scots as they take on Western Michigan University.

I did learn that LSSU has a burning snowman tradition.....which might give me a reason to visit Sault Ste. Marie in March.

I guess my public university degree is letting me down because I'm not entirely following your recent attack on me SAC.  I didn't start a rumor (don't care enough about it) about a 2pg back court but it was written about in the sentinel.  May have bought into the discussion but I don't remember talking about Colten(not a big fan...yet) and David together, I'm sure you can dig up my comments but I don't care to.  Can someone link up the article in the Sentinel for me?

What rumor are you referring to in the post you have highlighted?

Is it a rumor if it is indeed true? Because I've been pretty dead-nuts on thus far.

If someone already commented about David and Peter (2pg) back court, my apologies.  I tend to lightly read most posts (not on a daily basis), not analyze, break down, nit-pick, refute everything that I don't agree with ala Master SAC.  It's HIGHLY unlikely that I'm the only person to reiterate something on this board, without going as far as beating it....a dead horse I mean

You're one smug son of a bitch aren't you?  I have attempted to apologize and bury the hatchet, even acknowledged some errors in judgment but you simply can't let me be a member of this board can you?  I've even refrained from any "rumors",even if they are true and you didn't hear it first, as of late and simply tried to keep it on hoops.  Haven't even bashed GVW for showing up to the games, walking out in front of the bench Friday night as the team entered the gym, randomly coincidental or course....

Guessing my Karma will take a beating on this one.....  Feel free to pick apart my grammar too

For what it's worth, my karma took a hit (from someone unknown) when I suggested that the verb "eluded" in a posting by the Grand Poobah probably should have read "alluded to."  Don't feel like the Loan Arranger, Hoopdreams.

Hope fans should be should be glad the MIAA/CCIW classic schedule is the way it is. The Dutchmen will get Wheaton on day 2 of the classic; it will be the Thunder's third game in four days. Let's see if they can take advantage of those tired legs.

Wasn't me, sorry to disappoint.

Fun with the play by play:
LSSU used a 21-0 run over 5 minutes late in the first half and a 15-0 run over 4+ minutes early in the second half to blow this one wide open.  Alma actually led the game at the 7-minute mark of the first half, but found themselves down by 35 points just 14 minutes later.  Just your run-of-the-mill everyday 42-5 run.  And then of course LSSU dunks with 30 seconds remaining to push the final margin to 48.

At least this drubbing only counts as one loss for the Scots, and doesn't count at all for in-region/SOS purposes.

I think Salo's minutes will most likely come at the expense of Matt DeBoer. Bryan Powell will be more likely to see 25 minutes, instead of 30, an we'll be less likely to see Vallie or Fabiyi. That's pretty much 20 minutes/game.

I feel as though Fabiyi was never really expecting to get much PT when he got pulled up to varsity. He's on the bench more as a "in case this happens" rather than a "varsity experience" type player. While I would like to see him get more minutes, I don't see it happening with Schnyders, Deboer and Haverdink in the rotation (which I believe are players which could argued whether or not they should be in or not). I would very much like to see Vallie get more minutes. When he's seen the floor he's played very well, keeping his head about him and never trying to do too much and he's good on the defensive end.

On the subject of Salo, I feel as though a few months ago I made some sort of argument pertaining to experience not always trumping talent...hmm....and I feel as though I may or may not have gotten more than a bit of guff about such an outlandish thought.

On the subject of a deep rotation, I think it's a nice thing to be able to have, but I still dislike the Knights subbing system. Players are always taken out at the same point in every game whether they just rattled off 10 straight points or if they committed 3 turnovers, its all about time and not about rhythm, which (speaking as a former player) is about as difficult to deal with while playing as anything, as it usually ends up taking you out of whatever rhythm you may have had.

Why would you not catch lightning in a bottle when it occurs.

During the next lightning storm, come over to my house, and I'll give you a bottle. Run around wherever lightning strikes and hold out the bottle and hope the next strike comes down in the bottle. Repeat this until either A) you've caught lightning or B) you can tell me what you've learned.
