What are short turnaround teams in their road games from Friday?

Also 0-6

So no "away conference" team has ever won a Friday MIAA-CCIW game? Wow.

Exactly!  Maybe the travel??  Maybe the 2nd game teams play a bit better because they have adjusted to the setting?

And, maybe, it is statistically insignificant.

Halftime in Adrian

Adrian 29 St. Francis 20

The Bulldogs appear to be playing well.  Sean Gallant leads the way with 10 first half points

But maybe it is statistacally significant, but yet still a product of random variation.

Adrian 61 St. Francis(IL) 52

Adrian held off a St. Francis rally, then wrapped it up by hitting a couple big 3's to push the lead back to double-digits.....then missed some key FT's to give St. F some hope, but still hung on for the W.  Neither team shot FT's well, Adrian was a painful 10-15 down the stretch, those misses left it in doubt a little, but it was enough.  I believe they hit their last 6

Sean Gallant 15, Jovon Mosley 10...across the board a good team win with 9 different guys registering points.

St. Francis has been a struggling NAIA I program for a few years, no winning season's in the last 3.  However anytime a D3 beats an NAIA I it should be considered at least a good win.

The MIAA is now 18-18  on the year.

Tonight's lineup.......all the game links on miaa.org

Albion at North Central, Ill., 8 p.m

This game is not in-region.  NCC is a curious 1-4, curious because they've lost to Bluffton, Edgewood, Aurora, and Illinois College...but then beat Top 25 Manchester for their first win in their last outing.  Albion will have to contend with Derek Raridon, one of the best players in the CCIW.

NCC might be the youngest team you'll find, 10 Freshmen, 2 Soph's, 2 Jr's, 2 Sr's

Elmhurst, Ill. at Olivet, 7:30 p.m.

Another non-in-region game,  Elmhurst is 0-3 on the year, and were whacked by St. Norbert in their last outing by 28.

I'd guess Olivet PG Andre Evans and Elmhurst PG D'ante Foster have crossed paths, the two Muskegon area products will square off head-to-head.

Ohio Northern at Trine, 7:30 p.m.

In-region, and a good test for Trine against a traditionally good program.  ONU is 2-1, its loss coming to Wooster.  The Polar Bears were picked to finish 7th in the OAC, which typically means they could finish anywhere from 1st to 10th in that conference.  An odd pick given ONU has finished in the top half of the OAC 16 years in a row.

For the OAC, ONU seems very undersized.

WHY IS ALBION WASTING THEIR TIME WITH NORTH CENTRAL?

OLIVET SCHEDULED ELMHURST? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM?

DON'T THESE SCHOOLS KNOW THEY SHOULD PLAY IN REGION GAMES? THEIR SCHEDULING IS PREPOSTEROUSLY RIDICULOUS.

Carthage
result -- opponent -- rank
W -- Calumet St. Joseph -- 1498
W -- Bethany Lutheran -- 1212
W -- Pacific -- 1223
L -- John Carroll -- 606
L -- Whitworth -- 257

Calvin
result -- opponent -- rank
W -- Ohio Wesleyan -- 1186
W -- Aquinas -- 904
W -- Cornerstone -- 309
L -- Grace -- 554
L -- Davenport -- 361

According to Massey, none of Carthage's wins are against teams better than even OWU, and Calvin's losses rank as not really any worse than Carthage's. I'm not sure if Grace is actually better than John Carroll though.

Obviously it's early, and the top 25 isn't a "resume poll" at this point, but a top 20 team needs to start winning games. Like now. Actually, wait until after the weekend. Except Hope, you can beat them if you wish.

Agreed -- I think too our voters don't know what to make of Grace and Davenport, but do know what Whitworth and John Carroll are about, and that definitely helps.

Waynesburg University, coached by Mark Christner, (former Calvin assistant) has started out 2-1 this year.  That equals their win total of last year.  Their loss came in OT.

cambria321

Malone University, coached by Tim Walker (former Calvin assistant) will play in the Hope Holiday tournament (DeVette Classic?) December 29 & 30.  His team is off to a great start with only 2 losses I believe.

Looks like the Christners have a new addition to their family as well.

According to Massey, Hope has had the most difficult schedule so far in all of D-III. Calvin's is 5th most difficult.

None of Calvin, Hope, Wheaton, or Carthage played a game since the weekend, but other teams did and changed the Massey power ratings of those four. Now Calvin is favored to win two and Hope one, with the MIAA winning 3 games instead of 1. I'd definitely settle for the MIAA winning 3 of 4 (especially if Calvin got two of them  ;) ).

Actually, all of the games are close enough that they are pretty much tossups, as far as Massey can tell.

Carthage is Calvin's most difficult scheduled remaining game, apart from an away game at Hope, and similarly for Hope. Calvin is favored in all of its other remaining games, and Hope is favored in all other remaining games apart from the game at Olivet.

As long as the team Hope beats is Wheaton... that's really the key to the weekend for me.

Why is that? Were you terrified by a thunderstorm as a child?

He was terrified by in-region status as a child

Mr. Ypsi

It is much too early in the season to be putting much stock in Massey.

Although I've lived well over half my life in Michigan (in fact, rapidly approaching 2/3), and the picks will probably not improve my popularity, I foresee a CCIW sweep.

Sorry, just my opinion. ;)
