Hope battled back to only trail by 6 at the half.  The Dutchmen will have to stay close the first 5 minutes to have a chance

Carthage went up by 15 with 7 to go, but the Dutch came roaring back with an 11-0 run.  Halftime: Carthage 38, Hope 32.  (Steve Djurickovic has 15.)

The refs seem to have lost their whistles (which is fine by me :)) - only Bowser and Krombeen have even two fouls.

First 5 minutes indeed...

Last three would be helpful as well.   :P

Hope kept it going into the second half and attained an 8 point lead with 5:25 to go - then Carthage launched their own 11-0 run!

Currently, Carthage leads by 1 win 29 seconds remaining.

Dang.  I was sure Hope would end the Friday night streak. :)

Hope calls time with 8 seconds left.

Krombeen misses a jumper with 1 on the clock - Hope falls, 70-71.

Krombeen got slapped right across the forearm on the final shot - but no foul was called. Stevie D never fouls anyone.

One has to be impressed with the way a short handed Hope squad hung in there with a good Carthage team.  After the HOF I had it as advantage Calvin, but I think it has swung back to advantage Hope. :)

Krombeen did miss the shot but it was a forced shot and he did the best he could do.  Have to credit the defense on that one.

I'd call sour grapes on you, except CCIW teams have felt that way for going on four years now! ;)

wiz, I'm only going by livestats, so I certainly was not calling Krombeen out (and according to FDF, he was fouled; FDF is not exactly a neutral spectator, but I don't particularly doubt he is right. ;))

Amazing that Hope, without three of its top players, could play Carthage to a virtual draw on their floor.  If those three can get healthy in time to get back in shape and in the flow, this could be a better year than their early season will indicate.

FDF, did Jared M. suit up . . . or any word on when he might be able to play solid minutes?  His shooting and hustle could really help.

I posted my recap of the night over on CCIW Chat. Both games were pretty interesting, for different reasons. From the MIAA side of things, I was surprised by how poorly Calvin played and by how well a short-handed Hope played. I had to keep reminding myself that Hope and Calvin are two distinctly different opponents, with decidedly contrasting personnel and styles, who are at different places in their development. Otherwise, the urge to be excessively impressed by Wheaton and thoroughly underwhelmed by Carthage would've been too strong.

I was a little disappointed by the Michigander turnout. Part of the fun of seeing Hope and/or Calvin in a CCIW gym is the expectation that there will be a big turnout of people wearing the colors of the team/teams from the other side of the big water.
