Calvin struggled to defeat a very average Trinity team.  Just like a "hot hand" I know B. S. when I hear it or see it. ;)

Actually, according to Massey, the Knights exceeded expectations by 2 points. :o

WOW.  That is impressive. :)

Here's how the MIAA stands after another week of games, according to Massey:

Calvin    #27  (+2)   7.6
Hope      #30 (-11)   8.3
Olivet    #51 (-14)   4.4
Albion    #79 (+46)   2.2
Trine     #99 (-19)  -1.6
Alma     #168 (+51)  -4.7
Adrian   #201  (-1)  -4.6
Kzoo     #259 (+36)  -7.8

Albion made a big surge forward after upsetting Carthage, moving into fourth place in the MIAA. Alma moved way up with the win at Heidelberg. And Massey liked Kalamazoo's defeat of Chicago and close game against Elmhurst. Massey was less pleased by Trine's big loss to DePauw.

The league is looking more competitive--power ratings are close enough that there should be plenty of "upsets" and no one team running away with the league. Calvin, Hope, Olivet, and maybe Albion could compete for first place.

The league as a whole jumped up a place to #7, with a power rating actually greater than that of #6 UAA and hot on the heels of #5 ODAC. This may be the strongest MIAA in several years.

Realist, I think you and hoopdreams need to get drunk, or get dates, or both and maybe together.
Shalom.

I don't know about that, reading his comments suggests he's already two weeks into a bender.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.  Mine is that a 4-4 team no more deserves to be described as a "good team" than a 7-7 teams should be described as "a very good team".  Those are the the exact words KVS used to describe a Trinity team Calvin just defeated.  Frankly, IMHO,  describing a 7-7 team as very good, and thereby implying your 4-4 team is good, qualifies as B.S.

Hoopdreams is a big poster, and can speak for himself.   ;)

I am not going to drink the kool-aid that Calvin is this great, talented  team until they prove it consistently.    I recall a Calvin team a few years ago that was really hyped on the strenght of winning one game (against Wash. U), and after that never lived up to that hype.  I am not a fan of Bosko D., but to paraphrase him:  " Calvin is a lot of talk right now".

If memory serves me correct, we probably have to go back to 2005, maybe 2006.

My annual gripe about Massey..........it has Grace Bible listed as 4-1, which means they are missing about 10 games of data.   Its also missing numerous NAIA scores.  Its just really hard to put much faith in the accuracy of these rankings when so much data is being counted when it shouldn't (Ferris St v Calvin), wrong or missing.

Any coach with class, refers to their defeated opponent as a quality team.

Massey's rating is what it is -- not perfect, but the best available, and actually pretty accurate by the end of the year. It seems to record NCAA and NAIA scores but not NCCAA, etc. unless they involve NCAA or NAIA teams.

Calvin's power rating would go up just over a point if the Ferris State scrimmage weren't counted.

Personally I thought KVS was showing both class, and personal integrity when he described last years Alma team as "struggling".   IMO it is far more disingenuous  [adjective. lacking in frankness, candor, or sincerity] and self serving to describe Trinty as "very good" than it would have been to say they "played hard, and just wouldn't quit".  They did play hard, and they didn't quit.

Sadly, based on the trend line already established, and the fact Calvin should play another 18 games I will probably have enough notes by late Feb. to write an entire symphony. :)

I think, with the permission of esteemed commissioner FDF, we should include Massey's as a participant in our pick 'em league. He even includes confidence.

My guess is that he doesn't win, but does beat the group average by a fair amount.
