Nice to return home and see the Dutchmen pulled it out.

Hope 69 Lake Forest 65

Seems like every game they've played vs a MWC team has been tough.  I hate to say it but the evidence is piling up that this is not a very good defensive Hope team.  Well into the 2nd half LFC was shooting over 60% from the field.   After their 12 point lead with 16 minutes to play, they were held to just 12 points and 3 FG's, hopefully some better Hope D played a part in that......Hope seems pretty fortunate to have won this one.

Hope's defense is absolutely what got them back in the game. Hope went on a defensive run, pressing and causing lots of turnovers. A number of guys off the bench, including Colton Overway played a huge part in that run. Not only did they have numerous steals but they also forced several traveling and ball handling errors.

Hope comes from behind to win a close one, after losing 2 closes games to Carthage and Grace.  They have the strongest part of their offense (3 point shooting) taken away with only 9 attempts.  They create 28 turnovers.  Lake Forest only takes 18 shots the entire second half. 65 points is approximately 10-12 or so less than what they've been giving up thus far.

With all the injuries, recent roster turnover, taking LF's seemingly best effort in the first half and still coming away with a W, is something they're probably pretty happy with.  They won another all important in-region game as well.  Things got a little nasty and they didn't fold, didn't whine, didn't cave in.

Not sure how things will turn out tomorrow against Dominican, but I'm guessing Hope will be impressive. Especially with DU missing a pretty important part of their team, 3 year starter-J Turley...

Looking back at the stats from Trine/DU last year, one happened to notice

oops, meant to delete that last unfinished sentence about starting guard Xavier Patterson playing 44 minutes in that big overtime game last season. But he's not relevant, nor was my thought.

That frickin karma fairy... Did I lose 5 for refuting SAC's  proclamation that Hope " is not a very good defensive team", or because I was smug in a comment about the importance of a player no longer on a particular roster, or is it because I knew something about a disciplinary issue that an all-american poster didn't know.

If you have a good relationships with high school coaches and AAU coaches, you can find out anything, about anyone with a simple phone call or internet hit.  Modern tech is a beautiful thing....

Don't get your underwear all bunched up about something as silly as karma.  Sac was just making an observation, like we all do, based on statistical evidence.  Coach Neil's post game comment regarding their defense was different, although he wasn't bragging about what they did in the first half.  I am sure the Hope defense had a lot to do with all those Lake Forest turnovers.  The truth of the matter is, there really aren't very many good defensive stats from which a good analysis can be made when we aren't at the ballgame.  So, we have to go with what we have.  I mentioned in an earlier post how another coach made a comment about how few defensive mistakes one of his players made.  Some stats just aren't recorded.  But, we all have access to box scores, live scoreboards, announcers, etc., and there is no problem, in my mind, with people making observations.  Those observations won't always be right, but who's perfect anyway?  Get over it and have a very Merry Christmas.

Oh yeah, Go baby Knights!

And one more...congratulations to the Calvin women in climbing back into the national rankings.

I lost 4 sometime after 6 and when I was able to get back to the computer 5 hours later, my only post was about shorts........a karma bomb went off.  pretty lame.

Trine vs. Lake Forest, Ill. at RDV Sportsplex D3Classic (Orlando, Fla.), 5:30 p.m.

Hope vs. Dominican, Ill. at RDV Sportsplex D3Classic (Orlando, Fla.), 7:30 p.m.

...first meeting between Hope and Dominican

Not much to add for either game, since most was posted yesterday.  I'm sure Hope will be looking for a better offensive start than yesterday, and they simply can't allow teams to shoot over 50% and expect to win.  It would be nice to go into the Christmas break with a little momentum.

Once again, both games should probably be close.

Curiosity got the best of me and this is something I don't think I've ever seen before.

While this doesn't necessarily pertain to the idea of 'karma' on this board, all of this talk about karma kind of got me to thinking:

As a Christian, I believe in God's grace... not karma. Karma, to me, means you either get rewarded or punished according to what you deserve, whereas grace means you get rewarded even though you deserve to be punished, because of Christ's death. The two different concepts contradict one another, and I don't think you can truly 'believe' in both.

The Eastern Religion's view of karma is different than the view of karma on this board, and I'm aware of that, but I just was thinking and thought I would share an opinion  :)

Not sure what it means when the team with the best %, and the one with the worst % both have the same W-L records. :)   Also the team with the most wins, and the team with the fewest wins are only .004 apart right in the middle. :)

In looking at these figures it is interesting to see who is averaging the most attempts in a game.  I probably wouldn't have guess it this way.

1. Alma 66
2. Trine 61
3. Calvin 61
4. Olivet 59
5. Kazoo 57
6. Hope 56
7. Albion 55
8. Adrian 46

Probably doesn't mean anything.  Just interesting.

That would be how many shots their opponents are taking, these are the FG% defensive stats
