Did not see this coming based on last evening's games, although there is still 4 to play....

Trine really struggled to shoot the ball. Give LF credit for some pretty good D and excellent rebounding (36-21 advantage on the boards).

44-27 Hope at the half  Nice first half from the Dutchmen. Good offense good defense and they are playing with alot of intensity. Cut down on DUs offensive rebounds is the thing I think they need to improve

Looks like Hope has it clicking tonight.  Attendance is 100.  Are they all Hope fans?

Maybe 95% Hope fans.

Pretty impressive showing by the Golden Eagles against an admittedly weak CMU squad. From the PBP it looks like the game was close the entire way. The biggest surprise to me was to see the box score which showed Cornerstone outrebounded the Chips. When I saw Cornerstone play at the Hall of Fame Classic both Calvin and Hope hammered Cornerstone on the boards.

Nice pair of in region wins by Hope.

Lake Forest 63 Trine 51

Tim Pearcy 17, Noah Veach 11, and Ian Jackson 10 for Trine.

LFC probably leaves Florida feeling pretty good about themselves, they really shot the ball very well over the two games....this coming off two games heading into the tournament where they weren't all that competitive.

Trine finishes 8-3 in the non-conference and will open with Alma in the MIAA, meaning after two days of good looks at Hope in Florida, they'll host the Dutchmen on the first Saturday.  That should be a very interesting match-up.

Hope 86 Dominican 54

Will Bowser 17, Josh Holwerda 11, Ty Tanis 10, David Krombeen 10

After a sluggish start on Tues, it was good to see Hope put together a strong start and 40 minute effort on Wed.   This might be Hope's strongest performance from its bench this season.

Hope still has the Russ DeVette Tournament to play next Wed/Thur,  7-4 heading into the MIAA should be the goal for sure.   Besides the team bonding, Hope brings back to the cold North 2 more in-region wins and if the opportunity for the NCAA's is available, having 3 in-region wins in the back pocket will help.

The MIAA is 37-37, with 12 games remaining.

safe travels to everyone, whether you're heading home from Orlando or taking off somewhere else for the holidays.

A brief take on the last two games:
1. No one is mistaking Lake Forest and Dominican for Calvin, Olivet, Cornerstone or Davenport, but Hope fans must be feeling pretty good about the direction this team is headed, with everything that has happened to the roster.
2. I Hope that Josh Holwerda receives in his stocking the game tapes from the past 2 nights.  If he can shed the "sophomore slump" that many players deal with and maintain the confidence level from last night, it will be a huge boost to the program.  As important, I hope his teammates to continue to encourage and nurture his performance from last night.
3.  Each team has a defining moment in their season and I believe hope's may have occurred with about 11 minutes left in the second half of game 1.  After tanis and clark (very large young man vs someone who is not) were separated and tech's were assessed, Hope gave up 5 or 6 points the remainder of the game.  That defensive intensity carried over to the next game and even though DU was no powerhouse, Hope clearly played their most intense, complete defensive game of the season.

To my fellow posters:

Just some words borrowed from Clement Clark Moore (1779-1863) - with a little hardwood addition!!!

....He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a Good-Basketball Season!"

Merry Christmas everyone!   :D
