You're stepping on my handle, OK, but it's Christmas morning and I'm feeling magnanimous.
Warm Christmas wishes to all the posters -- even that goofy Hope Convert guy. ;)

Many thanks. I'm pretty sure my goofiness is a family trait.  ;)

I have one thing to slip in before the chat returns to the topic of basketball.
My Lions blog has been nominated for Sports blog of the Year at BallHyped.com. If you feel like voting me up check the box next to sidelionreport.com here.

By my count, the MIAA is 18-12 in regional play with 3 or 4 games remaining.

Albion has 1 potential game left (Defiance)
Calvin has 1 left (DePauw or Elmhurst)
Kalamazoo has 2 left (Geneva and either Case Western Reserve or Earlham)

So, at worst, the league will end up 18-16!

Only 9 days until the start of league play!!  That means it's time to start thinking about the MIAA Pick 'Em contest.  I have posted the rules for joining us on the MIAA Pick 'Em board, so please join in the fun.

Here's a link to the contest:

As an added bonus this year, I will be doubling the prizes   ;D

That is awesome, there is NOTHING that can keep me from carrying my prize from last year's contest everywhere I go. I find that it brings and AIR of confidence to my walk and I would have an EMPTY feeling and consider myself a real ZERO without it. The number of words that can describe the double of the prizes? NONE

I think the esteemed Commissioner considers the early lead to which MIAA posters have staked you in the Sports blog-of-the-year contest to be all the prize winnings one would ever need. ;)

Yes, however the MIAA board is but just one cog in the SLR hype machine. I'll leave it at that rather than going into a full Howard Dean rant.

I think the MIAA has a realistic shot at getting three teams into the MIAA tournament this year. I just did some (rather crude) OWP and OOWP calculations (using the NCAA's new home/neutral/road weighting), and Olivet is scoring quite nicely with their strength of schedule.

Using the weighted strength of schdule to compute in-region RPI, the GL region currently shapes up as:

1. Wooster
2. Olivet
3. Hope
4. Wabash

Calvin's weighted SOS is in the crapper right now (one home game against a struggling OWU), but a regional win in this week's Elmhurst Classic would put them right back in the Pool C mix. The MIAA being above .500 in non-conference in-region play (for the first time in a few years) will help out as well.

Trine also has a shot if they can continue their strong play in the conference season.

Don't they all get in brotha?   ;)
