The thing I find most disturbing about this article is Brian Van Ochten's hair.

The public silence surrounding Peter Bunn ends.

I hope people understand now why people were less willing to share what they did or did not know about what was going on.

The family and school probably went out of their way to try and control a little bit of that.  HIPPA says its none of our business and it isn't.

HIPAA doesn't say that at all, of course. It regulates how health care providers can transmit information.

Then it must be oldknight's fault for his post containing the link absent any additional commentary on the matter. Darn you Oldknight!

My wife isn't even in North America right now and I'm still confused about what I did wrong.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch . . . . KS has his usual post game chart up today analyzing Wednesday's game. The numbers show Schuster and Rodts come up big winners. No surprise there.

Why do you think this was not disclosed because of "shame"?  It's not like he was wearing a Calvin uniform.    :P

Just like we didn't know anything about the injury until now, we also don't know (and shouldn't speculate) the reasons why it wasn't disclosed.  It's none of our damn business!!!!!!

No one said it wasn't disclosed because of "shame", just the opposite.  I said and others said that this isn't a situation that he should be ashamed of or embarrassed by at all.  This isn't the case of players going out and getting drunk or cheating on school work or something.  Those are shameful situations, Peter's is not shameful in any way.

Listen, no one said it was kept secret because it was shameful.  It wasn't and isn't a shameful situation.  I think we all actually feel some compassion for him.

You didn't, and neither did I.  Just more nonsense.

Thank you for the link by the way, I appreciated reading that.  I probably would have missed it today.

Sac:  You ask a good question.  My answer is if I knew it was a "closed head injury" I would say it was a closed head injury.  I attach no shame to that injury.  In fact disclosing it to me would indicate I appreciate the difficulty of that diagnoses, and would disclose it hoping others would as well.

I didn't ask any question, I don't know what post you are referring to

But just to humor you, ......and what if you didn't know it was a closed head injury but knew something was wrong and  had to go through all the tests to figure out what it was.  What would you say then?

You'd say you had a medical condition that required further testing wouldn't you.

Really.  Given the fact that back in Nov. we were told he was to stop practice, and not to raise his blood pressure meant he was having some problems.  Today's newspaper article states Mr. Bunn was experiencing problems concentrating on his schoolwork.  That sort of implies he was having some cognitive problems, and those usually happen inside a persons head.  Please don't try to humor me by making yourself out to be dumb.  You aren't dumb, and neither am I.  I already told you it didn't take me long to figure out what Mr. Bunns problem was quickly using the Internet.  Mr. Bunn, his family, and I sort of assume Hope College knew where Mr. Bunns boo-boo was.  Everyone knows we have headaches in our heads not our wrist or our butt.

I asked several doctors when a patient would be advised to avoid raising their blood pressure, and they all indicated the most likely reason would be heart or head related.  Mr. Bunn had been playing right along, and to all appearances was doing well physically so closed head injury was the next logical assumption.  This was especially true since we already knew he had flipped over a bike.

To me, this is the whole sequence of events:

Non-informed Hope/Calvin poster: "I wonder what's wrong with Peter Bunn, anyone know?"

"Informed" Hope posters: "They don't want anyone to know. Some of us know, but you can't so stop being nosy. Never ask again because it's a family issue. They don't have to tell you."

...

Non-informed Hope/Calvin poster: "Seson's under way, any news on Bunn's injury and when/if he'll play?"

"Informed" Hope posters: "They don't want anyone to know. Some of us know, but you can't so stop being nosy. Never ask again because it's a family issue. They don't have to tell you. You have no morals because you are asking"

...

Non-informed Hope/Calvin poster: "Just saw they've declared him out for the year, anyone know if he's going to play next year? Have they said what the injury is?"

"Informed" Hope posters: "They don't want anyone to know. Some of us know, but you can't so stop being nosy. Never ask again because it's a family issue. They don't have to tell you. You have no morals because you are asking. Do not move, I'm going to perform a citizen's arrest on you for being curious about a topic relating to this forum."

...

Non-informed Hope/Calvin poster: "Here's an article with the injury news."

"Informed" Hope posters: "Is everyone happy now? Now do you get it? Do you?"

Non-informed Hope/Calvin poster: "Not really, I mean, I hope he gets better, but they could have said something... or not.. or whatever they wanted to. But really, why are you freaking out at me?"

"Informed" Hope posters: "ARRRRRGHGHGHGHGH"

It's getting hot in here!

Pat, it beg to differ.  I believe the reason Hope kept things on the down low had plenty to do with how Pete handled things, or didn't, and I'll leave it at that. The question isn't-What is the injury? It's- Why isn't he still on the team?  Why is he asking if he can sit on the bench?  Did King and Vennema have to ask?

There wasn't a press release because they didn't know for quite some time what was wrong or that anything was wrong, and when testing was finally completed, nothing conclusive was available.

From what i understand, it has been a 3-ring circus all school year, and Coach Neil/Hope, etc... wanted to keep it out of the press for a bounty of reasons.  Just because its not in the press (the whole story and the process leading to his removal from the roster will never be in print, and it shouldn't) doesn't mean it isn't true, nor that it cannot be discussed.  Unless of course, the person giving the info asked that it be kept private.  No one I have spoken to said "this is a secret, don't tell anyone"

There is no guarantee that he will return and if he does, the productivity the same.  I pray for his health and for his parents.

If Hope didn't want it discussed, they've done a pretty damn poor job of it this week because it seems like its in the papers each day.

FWIW- I had nothing to do with this today

To change the subject that we are beating to death, has anyone seen the video of KVS's next recruit to Calvin.  We will be trying to sign him to come in and play as a 13-yr old college freshman to bring a dependable ball handler to the backcourt next year to help cut down on the TO's.

this comment was simply a hope that people would understand why there wasn't much information made public on it, and that yes some of us Hope posters knew quite a bit more than we were willing to share.  But not all of us, including me, knew what was happening in November, and didn't find out until much later in December .........when it  all made a heck of a lot more sense to me.

I don't come here searching for animosity, but for some reason people have spent way too much of the last 2 years looking for it in my posts when it isn't there and its getting really, really tiring.

I think starting a post with wording like this invites that kind of response.

I would suggest making a practice of saying what you mean rather than leaving it to a single veiled sentence that could be misinterpreted. Instead of asking for the rest of the board to find a better way to read your posts, consider finding a better way to write them.
