Schuster did JV as a frosh, then some varsity as a soph., but only a few games. He then sat out a full year before returning last season, so this is his fifth year.

You are correct.  I didn't go back that last year.  Senior moment.

Total varsity minutes prior to the 2010-2011 season

Calvin - 5227
Hope - 6522

Thanks I was planning to get these numbers.  Looks like Calvin has 80% of the Hope number.

What's the story with Mitch Vallie?  That bandage didn't look good.

He gashed his head open in the JV game that was played on the old fieldhouse court. If I remember correctly, it took 14 or so stitches to clean it up. I'm not sure exactly how it happened but it was not the result of a dirty play or anything like that.

He went up to black a shot in the JV game and got undercut. Did a "full" flip and landed on his head. Kid is lucky only to have suffered a bad cut as that injury is something that can sometimes break a neck or cause a serious concussion.

Taking a glance:

Attendance at two recent "Rival" games:
Calvin vs. Hope (1/5/11)  - 3653
CMU vs. WMU (1/9/11) - 3476

KUDOS to the MIAA!!  ;D

That is truly amazing!  Maybe another banner is in the making.

Would all of this talk of how bad Hope's defense is be a mute point if they had beaten Calvin last week?

So mute it has become the defense that dares not speak its name.

OK, for all intensive purposes, I misunderestimated you.  A rousing, even roaring +K

Just looking at Calvin's four seniors vs Hope's Bowser/Tanis/Krombeen trio, here's career minutes played coming into this season.

Rodts 1343
Salo 1162
Schuster 594
Schnyders 467
Total for four Calvin seniors:  3566 career minutes, average of 892/player

Bowser 1708
Tanis 973
Krombeen 1532
Total for Hope's two top seniors and one junior:  4213, average of 1404/player

My only point in bringing this up is that Calvin's seniors don't have the game experience that most seniors do.   And our only junior Haverdink has played a grand total of 84 career minutes before this season.  Everyone else is FR/SO, so I would still make the claim that this is a relatively young and inexperienced Calvin team. (still no excuse for losing to Kzoo though  :( )

The obvious difference is Bowser, Tanis and Krombeen have spent all of their time on Varsity.  The four Calvin kids, either played JV a year, were injured or transfered in to  Calvin.  So yes, it is true Calvin's Sr's don't have the type of game experience you might typically expect.

At least when compared to 3 guys from Hope who have either played all 4 years or will.

Albion forward, J.C. Cruse, is player of the week.

Les staying at LSU

I'm actually relieved

Me too, although the options they're left with aren't appealing either.
