Calvin students will begin interim break on Thursday.  The number of students on campus for the Albion and Hope games will be significantly lower.

Hope students were on Christmas  break on Jan. 5 and Calvin students will be on break this weekend.  Hopefully someone looks at scheduling a little differently next year.

I've seen a lot of bad zebra exhibitions this year but the crew of Pennington, Dinkfelt and Vogt, who worked the game at Calvin on Saturday, did a fine job.

While the game against Trine did not appear as a thing of beauty, I thought Calvin played very well.  They hustled for forty minutes, outrebounded the opponent and held their turnovers to the team goal of 12, althought it appeared they had all of them in about the first five minutes.  The shots simply were not falling and I think it was more of an off day than being caused by the defense that Trine threw at them.  It can be tough to play through poor shooting, but they did it.

Final comment: it is time to get Jordan Brink significantly more playing time.  The kid's got game!

As I said before, 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists...in 17 minutes......

People that studied abroad for interim will be back easily by Saturday, though.  I don't think there will be too much problem filling up the student section up to the max.  There never really has been for Calvin/Hope games.

Calvin has already sold about 800 student tickets is the word on the street I caught.

At this point it looks like Calvin's rotation is set now that Salo has been back 5 games.  Unless there are injuries it would surprise me to see any significant changes.  Perhaps a few minutes more or less for some players, but it looks like 11 will be seeing p.t.

I'd like to give a shout out to the Dark Knights, but I really need to shout "OUT!" to them.

Folks, seriously, if you are gonna dress up, do more than just stand around and sway like your are in a Robert Palmer video.  Get vocal and lead your student section or get out of the way.  If you do next Saturday what you did last Saturday, the Dew Crew is going to laugh you out of the gym.

Agree.  I took my son to the game last Saturday and his quote was "What the heck are those?"  ::) ???

quotes from the Sentinel

"Watching film, I think early in the season ... I would say that Hope wasn't a very good defensive team, but if you look at the last three or four games, even in the league, their defense is pretty darn good," May said.

"Jody's statement to me was 'Your kids were flat out tougher than us,'" Hope coach Matt Neil said. "I told the guys that because that was a statement from him, because I respect him so much because his teams are so good defensively."

"The parity of the league is phenomenal," Matt Neil said. "This is a big win winning here. When you can win on the road at this place with a great crowd and a raucous atmosphere, it's a quality win."

You're probably right, but with the way Brink has been playing and doing it so efficiently it's hard to believe that he isn't, or won't be, able to eat into some of the minutes of other players.  Especially considering that they'll have him for another 3 years beyond this season where some other players don't have as much time left at the Knollcrest campus.

I agree with the advantages of Brink playing more and being a real plus.  The player I see him replacing more often is Powell, who is so erratic.  When he is driving and agressive, he can look great.  But he does not seem to know when to attack and when not to.  He loses the ball far too often and is very erratic in his shooting with a low shooting percentage.

Powell has 31 turnovers this year. Brink has 34.

I'll admit that I did not realize that Brink had that many turnovers, though I did realize turnovers were a problem,  but did you notice the comparison of shooting percentages-- Brink at .534 overall and .486 on 3 point shots as compared to Powell's rather low .388 and .281 on threes?  Which would you rather have shooting for you?
