Kookier!

And every call he made in the first half was in Calvins favor!!

Unfortunately, most of those meaning putting both arms straight up in the air.

The charge on Will was ridiculous though.

Same number of shots by both teams. Same number of rebounds by both teams. Hope with more turnovers and fewer made shots. Sounds like we need to match their defense.

Why did Brad Schnyders get some much playing time in the second half?!?!?  Calvin deserved to lose

Within the first minute of the second half, "KromBEEN" hit a shot which prompted one annoucer to comment that he's "not usually a jump shooter." I had a good chuckle since he has about as smooth a pull-up jumper as I've seen. David then decided to showcase those jump shooting skills the rest of the way.

Usually in these games, as it was with Schuster today, I reach a point where I'm saying to myself "well that's going in" as soon as Calvin puts a shot up from outside. It was nice to also have that thought every time Krombeen came open in the second half. Hope did finally start matching to defensive effort as well. The shooting was hot in the second half, but they needed those turnovers they starting forcing as well to come that far back.

Defensive play of the half to Logan when he tipped a steal away, bounced it off someone's face, and then saved it back in bounds on the ricochet. Colton overway with the highlight shot of the half with the twisting scoop layup during the mini-run he created.

Wow!!! What a great comeback for Hope!

Really impressive efforts by Krombeen and Bowser.

A couple thoughts:

1) Very frustrating in the first half to see Hope players drive down to the baseline, pick up their dribble and get trapped.  Really not smart play to get stuck in that position.

2) Hope's press was very effective. I only recall one turnover created but it clearly made Calvin work to move the ball.

3) I thought the color-guy on the TV actually made a great point. Calvin almost never attacked the hoop after breaking the press. They'd settle for a jumper or try to set up the offense when they often had an advantage down low. I really think that cost Calvin the game.

Tribes of primitve hunters, with rhinestone codpieces rampant, should build pyramids of Chevy engines covered in butterscotch syrup to exalt the diastolic, ineffable, scintillated and cacophonous salamander of truth which slimes and distracts from each and every orifice of your holy refrigerator.

6 turnovers for Snikkers-that was crucial.  They seemed to come right in the midst of Hope's run too.

Edit: All were in the 2nd half, 1 was with 18 sec left so we'll give him a pass. The others:
19:22, Calvin by 11
11:43, Calvin by 8
10:28, Calvin by 5
7:44, Hope by 2
6:57, Hope by 5
0:18, Hope by 4

Yes, though Snikkers' offense--20 points on very impressive moves that Hope couldn't contain--is also what kept Calvin in the game.

Kudos to David Krombeen not only for that 2nd half offensive display, but also his six steals (the other side of some of those turnovers).

At halftime I remarked that the first 20 minutes seemed like a continuation of the Albion game. In the end the difference between Wednesday and Saturday proved to be that Hope--unlike Albion--maintained focus and composure in the face of a double digit deficit, and continued to run their offense and defense as they prepared to do. Where the Brits self destructed by abandoning any pretense at a coherent offense in favor of wasted one-on-one forays to the basket, Hope just executed better in the final 20 minutes, and continued to run their offense until they finally found someone other than Bowser who could score. Krombeen was obviously the difference after the break--on both ends of the floor--scoring most of his 23 points, grabbing rebounds and raising general havoc in the passing lanes. Even though Calvin couldn't stop Hope from scoring in the second half, the Knights would still have won if they had executed their offense a little better the final 20 minutes but they couldn't finish plays when they needed to. The one encouraging thing I did see today was noticing that Holland Christian's fine player, Tyler Dykstra, was seated directly behind the Calvin bench.

What a sensational game at VanNoord today.  Definitely a tale of two halves.  There has been discussion of late on the board as to who is Hope's better point guard.  I think they are lucky to have to great point guards in Krombeen and Overway.  Happily David came out of his slump today and did not get into foul trouble.  And I think if you look at the fouls he does get, they come when is going help side.  Not because he has slow feet.  Colton also had another great game.  These two young men give Hope a very quick guard option with two exceptional ball handlers and defenders.

Congrats to Hope, the Hope players, and Mr. Neil.  Good to see a team that realizes the game lasts 40 minutes, and that yuo need to play and coach for the entire 40 minutes.

The Calvin loss falls directly on vandestreek's lap.  what the hell was he thinking to run that bs stall tactic with 13 minutes to go.  that is when calvin lost all momentum and in the end the game.  Calvin played great when they attacked.  the players deserved better today.
