The loss of the in-region game is the most damaging aspect of all of this imo.
I wonder if the 4-team tournament becomes reality if some of the pre-conference scheduling will change to include more in-region games.

Maybe, but then I understand some things were in the works regardless of this change.

The obstacles that were there before are still there will a 4 team tournament.

Just saw on the MIAA website, Hope v-ball led the nation in attendance this season....wonder if they'll hang another banner for that since Calvin hung another one this year and all....  ::)

When you're wondering if you'll finish 2nd or 6th, you're bound to be a little cranky and looking to take a jab.  It's ok.  We understand...   8-)

Perhaps a little "conflict," whether from comments from Doug Wentworth or others here on Posting Up, is just what's needed for the Knights.  I believe that some "conflict" in the form of a multitude of discussions about a lack of defense sparked the Dutchmen on early in the year.  Maybe some constructive critcism isn't necessarily a bad thing at this point in time...

I think we've had some good constructive criticism about the Knight's play well before this past Wednesday, but of course who knows if KVS reads this board, so maybe it is a good thing for it to come from Doug Wentworth.

I think Calvin obviously knows they need to win the MIAA tourney to get the big tourney, but if they're not careful, they will be playing their first round game on the road and possibly have to play Hope in the semis....something that has not happened since 2003.

Colton played on a high school team where great high school players  fade into oblivion.  West Ottawa is one of the most underachieving programs in West Michigan, ever.  Is it: never winning a conference championship or a district title, or both in the history of their school? This is a rant for another day.

Back to Overway... If memory serves me correct, he played a lot of minutes on varsity as a sophomore and obviously as a junior.  As his senior year began, he was "bumped" to an off guard position in favor of a grossly over-hyped underclassman (at the time).  He did not put up "big numbers" in high school but then again, few do in the OK Red Conference.  THIS IS NOT A KNOCK AGAINST COLTON.  It has become painfully apparent that some coaches don't know how to take advantage of the players on their roster.  As far as personal accolades, I believe he made all-conference his senior year.

As far as recruiting goes, I don't believe he was heavily recruited although I'm sure someone can correct me.  I know that Northwood was somewhat intrigued but that's about all I know.  It could be save to assume that Hope was the choice all along-  his proximity to Hope, the fact that he practically grew up in the Dow and DeVos, had deep family connections there, and one of his best buds happens to have a father who coaches there.

He started off shaky but has finished with a flourish.  Slow start was due to Hope's lack of competition in the preseason, the transition from JV to varsity, and finding time to learn his role and how vitally important he is.

I would love to know who is more athletic, quicker from point A to B, and possibly more explosive off the floor than Mr. Overway.  His lack of range is due to the fact that he has rarely ever needed to shoot from behind the arc and he doesn't have the confidence, nor the repetitions for it yet.  When he becomes more comfortable out there, he will be tough(er) to defend.

He's no EE, JH or PB but he's pretty damn good

In his high school days, Colton always looked good in "open gym" type runs, but I kind of lost track of him his senior year. Just not a good fit for the boring, grinding football players = football scores O-K Red. A lot of talent goes to waste in that league.

Good one, but I would've answered this way:

Actually I was speaking of pre-season competition, before the non-conference season began.  In recent past, Hope has "scrimmaged" teams like  U of Detroit, Oakland or Ferris State, and then had a patsy get together with a local all-star team.  No scrimmage this year against any "real team" either D1, 2, 3, or NAIA,  just some Hope Alums, a GVSU grad and a few other players I didn't recognize.  It was a modified pick-up game, hardly a true test.

Their first true, live competition was against Davenport and Cornerstone, two nationally ranked NAIA teams at the time, both with 6-8 games already played.

Thank you for attempting to correct me once again.

Did the team have a couple of those too?

Hopin the Calvin offense can play as well as this come conference tourney time.  110 points right now with a minute in a half to go  :o
