Calvin wins 115-65 (but it was never really that close).  Calvin's first 100+ game at Van Noord.

Hope fights hard to help out their pals in Grand Rapids, knocking Adrian out of the logjam in 2nd place, 59-55.

Thanks, Dutch!

After a Wednesday where everything went right for Hope this Saturday seemed to be one where everything went right for Calvin. Three of the teams tied with Calvin will lose today, the most possible without Calvin losing. Calvin also shot an obscene 16-24 from 3 against Alma. That is Wisconsinesque!

Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

The problem for Calvin is they still have to play at Trine and at Albion. Two games that are going to be tough especially on a squad that has lacked consistency...h*pefully they didn't use up all their shooting against alma, otherwise it is going to be a very short rest of the season.

Even with an off afternoon from Snikkers who went 1-8, it was obvious early on that Alma was not going to compete today. Calvin broke the game open with an early 18-2 run to take a 20-6 lead and Alma simply folded the tents and took off the rest of the day. Calvin certainly shot well, going 16-24 from the arc, but the looks they got were mostly wide open. This wasn't Adrian's defense we were seeing and after observing Wednesday night's game, the contrast was striking. The Scots helped quicken the pace, thereby increasing the number of total possessions, which goes a long way to explain the 115-65 final score. It was nice of Alma to press the Knights most of the way--even after the game was well in hand--thereby giving Calvin some extra practice in the full court. But in the second 20 minutes, the half court play had the look and feel of an All-Star game with an awful lot of one-on-one takes to the basket without much doubling of the ball and with a lot shots taken early in the shot clock.

Just saw on the MIAA website, Hope v-ball led the nation in attendance this season....wonder if they'll hang another banner for that since Calvin hung another one this year and all....  ::)

too obscure?

Wow! I guess all that behind-the-scenes lobbying I did in favor of a banner featuring a prepubescent sac finally paid off. :o

Are your freshmen Greene and Fabiyi injured?

Greene has had mono all year and hasn't played at all. Can't tell you why Fabiyi didn't get at least a couple of minutes today.

Mike Fabiyi has been playing on JV all year as well. I think there's a rule about the number of combined games a player can play.

Yeah... after I asked I saw on the MIAA site he has 0 stats for the year. Looks like the ball boy could have played today! Heck of a thumping!

Feeling a lot better about Calvin basketball thanks to that free hot dog at the pre-game bash.

I heard they were going to offer those hotdogs at the Hope game but then noticed Hope brought their own.  By the way, I heard Tanis scored 16 yesterday.  Way to go, Ty.
