Woops didn't mean to make it a guessing contest. :D

Alma, Albion and Olivet are all just a tad down from last season in efficiency.

Kalamazoo has made a big jump from last season and Trine has also improved a significant bit.

Dang...ah well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.   :D

John is a member at our church, and I have been fortunate enough to have a few conversations with him throughout the process of creating this film.  It sounds like it has been an exciting project for everyone involved, and with a solid message.  We showed the trailer at the beginning of each of our services this past weekend (John and this film project have been mentioned by our pastor as a focus of our prayers for each other--nice to be able to show a bit of what we have been praying about).  The film will be showing at Celebration Cinemas in Grand Rapids (North and Rivertown) starting next Friday, February 18th, for one week.  I have been eagerly awaiting its release and will surely go see it at least once.

If you can make it to the GR locations in a week, you really should.  If you are in the Chicagoland area, it will be at the Portage theater on Milwaukee Ave for 3 shows on Feb 25 & 26.

I want to say more about this film because everything that I know about it points to a top-notch effort.  But it's WAY past my bedtime.   :-\
If there is one thing I've learned from this board it's this: There's more than one way to split a hair.

Some of our friends on the NCAC board think the Wittenberg/Wooster rivalry is as good or better than Calvin/Hope. While I have my doubts, Witt/Woo is pretty intense and their Saturday matchup shared something in common with the most recent Calvin/Hope game--a big early lead followed by a collapse down the stretch. Wooster led by 10 at half and built their lead to 14 early in the second frame only to see the Tigers roar back and win 76-72. All that Knight fans can say to the Scots is: We feel your pain.

The Wooster collapse wasn't the most spectacular of the weekend though. NAC opponents Lyndon St. and Thomas played one for the ages Saturday. Thomas trailed 62-39 at half, gave up 57 more in the second half and trailed by 24 with less than 9 minutes left. But Thomas overcame that by scoring 80 of their own in the second half to tie the game at 119 at the end of 40 minutes of play, hitting two triples in the final 6 seconds of regulation. Thomas went on to score on a put back at the final buzzer to win 138-136 in OT. Here's the link to the box score:

Attendance numbers typically suggest otherwise, and I'm not just talking about total number of people, I'm talking about % of capacity.

I loved how the previous poll on the d3hoops homepage presupposed that Calvin/Hope was the foregone conclusion and limited the choices to "besides Hope/Calvin, what rivalry would you most like to experience"

For years, my take on the subject has been as follows: When one of the other rivalries can come even close to putting 11,000 people in the seats for a game, let me know.

A game KVS would like to have back, and on campus I'm sure...  I'd be real curious how many box office tickets would be sold in W. MI for Hope/Calvin game at VA again. If I remember correctly, lots of those tickets were a give away type. Impressive none the less.

First of all, who are these friends you speak of on the NCAC board that think the Witt/Woo rivalry is as good or better than Calvin/Hope?  I haven't seen anyone suggest the Witt/Woo rivalry is better than the Hope/Calvin rivalry.  I have seen it argued that the Witt/Woo rivalry is second behind Hope/Calvin (as the results of the poll taken on the front page also suggested), but I don't recall anyone claiming it's the best.   :)

Second of all, while it was painful watching Witt come from 14 down in the second half, Wooster had already turned that trick on Witt in their first meeting this season.  Witt actually led by 11 with nine to play in the game when Wooster finished the game with a 27-9 run to win by seven.

BogeyMan

Another thought on the Witt/Wooster rivalry is that Witt has not been a member of the NCAC for a really long time.  They were in the OAC for a longer period of time than they have been in the NCAC.  The length of their rivalry does not compare to that of the Hope/Calvin rivalry.  When in the OAC the big rivalry used to be Ohio Northern/Witt!

I think it would be very tough to fill Van Andel again.  There was a certain novelty aspect to it in 1997.  My recollection is that it sold out weeks in advance of the game.  My painful recollections also include hearing the Hope student body chant "This is our House" throughout the second half while we maroon and gold types sat on our hands....     :(

Right. It's the type of thing that takes a lot of time, coordination, and planning to get that many fans there. No something you could do very often or on a whim. But, to Pat's point, no one else could even imagine doing such a thing in the first place.

I understand, but there's still no sign anyone else can come even close to that.

I don't recall any tickets given away for that game.  It was well promoted by both schools and the demand was incredible.  Great venue and awesome crowd.  The only downside was Calvin's ice-cold shooting from the field.
