A "Heads Up" to everyone for the Hope vs. Kalamazoo game tomorrow, Saturday, February 19, 2011.

There is NO Men's JV game.  Seems to be a scheduling "Oops!"

The Lady Hornets will be playing St. Mary's at 1:00 p.m. with Hope vs. Kalamazoo Men following at 3:00 p.m.

Please pass the word!  :)

If this is true (working on confirmation) Hope's jv is unaware of it.  Could there be someplace else on campus that they would play the jv game?

Unfortunately, confirmed there will be no Hope/Kalamazoo JV game tomorrow.

This gripes my soul, as my Grandma used to say.  I know that the women's/men's double header thing is well intentioned, but I for one don't enjoy it.  Beyond that though, Hope's schedule this year has left many parents, jv and varsity alike, unable to see Wednesday games.  I'm sure there were parents hoping to see their son's last game on Sat., and now are left disappointed, and at the last minute.  For some, it would have been their last chance to see their son in a Hope uniform, I'm guessing.  Really crappy way to end a season.  I feel badly for them.

Do they still get to drink the Capri Suns that they would have had after the game? It's a major bummer if not.

I agree that this stinks for those players and families involved.  Until you mentioned it I didn't think of the angle that this is many of those players' last game in organized basketball.  Really too bad for those guys.  Why couldn't they just play it after the varsity game, say, from 5 pm-7 PM, and tell the intramural floor hockey teams to reschedule?

Calvin's jv team has bounced around a little on the schedule this year.  The date of the first Hope game was moved back to Mon. Jan. 17th, and the first Kalamazoo game was moved to the Hoogeboom rec. center to allow for the M/W doubleheader.

A nice luxury that Calvin has that many D3's probably don't. A quality second facility within the primary facility. Calvin's used this for Men's and Women's JV several times over the past couple of seasons.

Hope has done the same (last year, not this year) with the Dow hosting JV games while the Varsity is at DeVos.  As you said, not a luxury most schools have - whether they're in the same building or not.

I'm curious of peoples opinions about the Women/Men double headers (considering it is rarely, if ever the same visiting school for both games).

But ours was in the master plan.

It seems like many of the schools are now trying it about once a season.  I don't have a problem with it myself.
I am sure it would be a real struggle to try to match the men's and women's schedules with 8 mens, and 9 womens teams in the current MIAA.  I assume the schools could possibly trade dates (with MIAA blessing), but doing it very often would create it's problems.

I was thinking about the men's and women's teams traveling together a couple weeks ago. I'm not intimately familiar with the women's scheduling but it seems from my course observation that they alternate Tue/Thur/Sat weeks and Wed/Sat weeks. I have to imagine there is serious potential to increase the travel efficiency by having the men and women travel together at least 50% of the time.

This has the makings of a great logic puzzle.

That would be true, if there were no men's or women's jv squads to consider.  As it is now, the buses are nearly full w/ two squads each trip anyway.

I think it is fair to acknowledge that a full JV schedule may rank below a better economic travel model. I'm not saying it is right or wrong but it has to be considered.

Saturday, February 19

Calvin at Albion, 3 p.m.

http://miaa.org/mbb/stats/1011/0126caab.htm

I'm not sure how you erase a 31 point deficit, one thing is pretty clear looking at that boxscore and that's that this might have been one of Albion's worst performances of the last decade.  The starting 5 went 5-28 in this one and spent a lot of time on the bench, the Britons were simply never in this game.

Neither team can do worse than 3rd in the standings.

Trine at Adrian, 3 p.m.

http://miaa.org/mbb/stats/1011/0126adtr.htm

Trine rallied to make this close late.  This was back when Ian Jackson was 'slumping' a little bit.  Will be interesting to see if the result is different and Jackson produces as he has the last few games.

Adrian has the most to play for as far as the tournament goes, they can still end up with a home game.  They will either draw Calvin who they've beaten twice, Albion who they split with or Olivet who they've lost to twice.

Alma at Olivet, 3 p.m.

Alma's win over Adrian Wednesday was one of the least likely results of the year.  The Bulldogs crushed them by 39 the first time and Alma turned that around to win by 1.  Alma has been competitive at home, less so on the road.  Olivet needs the win to assure a home court next Wed vs either Kzoo or Adrian.

Senior Day for Olivet with McClary, Jennings, Post and Bramer

Hope at Kalamazoo, 3 p.m.

It's only been 3 1/2 weeks since these two met in probably one of the most exciting MIAA games in quite some time.  I wouldn't expect a repeat of the Bowser 46, Prepolec 40 point nights.

http://miaa.org/mbb/stats/1011/0126kzoo.htm

Another big Senior Day for Kzoo  Cary, Clark, Caldwell, Lapka, Stewart, Hollenbeck, Hermanson and Mitchell could all be playing their last game at AAC.  Kzoo needs some help from Alma and its first win over Hope in a long time to gain the #4 seed.

Hope's margin for error is thinner now, I suspect this might end up being the game of the day.  Could be an emotion filled game.

Wednesday was an exciting night in the MIAA, Saturday would do well to match half the excitement.
