20th year of the tourney and what, the 17th time Hope has hosted Alma? I forget the count, but it is really uncanny how they always find each other. Did Alma beat Hope once, or make it through the first round in a year they drew another opponent?

This will be the 13th time Hope and Alma have met in the first round,  Hope played Trine last year, and Kzoo in 2000, the only times Hope hasn't been paired with Alma.

Alma made the semi-final once in 1997 when they beat Albion 71-70 at Albion.   1997 is the only year more than 1 lower seed has made the semi-final, Adrian beat Kzoo that year.  Probably the most lopsided semi's we've had with Calvin beating Adrian by 37, Hope beating Alma by 30, which resulted in maybe the best final we've had, a 63-62 Hope win.  If I recall Hope scored 4 points in the final minute, and a Freshmen named Aaron Winkle's 17 footer rimmed out followed by a missed Calvin tip in at the buzzer.  One of the best Hope/Calvin games I've seen.

Alma has never hosted a 1st round game.

Joel Holstege score the final five points of that game.

Thanks sac - good stuff!!  I see that Hope will be going for the first 4peat in MIAA tournament history.

I wasn't going to mention that.

Should also point out, and I'm sure the other 6 schools are thrilled.........Hope and Calvin are going for 6 years in a row of meeting in the Championship game.

Merely bringing this up probably assures it won't happen. :-\

Sac--how long have you believed that you have these mystical powers that you can affect the outcome of these games simply by commenting on them?   ;)

On the other hand, it would make you a lock in the pick-em contest.  :o

Really, I mean I thought it was only hard to do things in threes, like beat the same team 3 times in one season  (I guess 6 is a multiple of 3 so maybe that's even harder)   ::)

Is this MIAA games only, or all regular season?

Happy Calvin Guy

The entire regular season.  I don't have it broken down by league games only, sorry!

This make Josh Holwerda the most exciting player in the MIAA with 1 dunk every 41 minutes.  :D

The dunk list isn't complete.  Tyler Kruis had a 1/2 dunk and I'm not someone that just listens to the radio, I saw it with my own eyes!  Folks, you gotta go to these games to see stuff, you can't just be looking it all up on the internet and then making bold statements.

I was present for that one at VNA as well, I think it was during the 2nd half of the home game vs Trine.  Happened right in front of me.  Missed dunks don't make the list though, even for 1/2 a dunk!   :D
