Hope had 20 offensive rebounds on 29 missed shots.......that seems kind of awesome.

Looks like knightslappy's "guaranteed" prediction came true. 3 technical fouls in 1 game keeps things interesting.

Trine with 2 intentional fouls and Calvin with 1 technical.

Tommy's tech was he result of him flipping the ball towards the hoop after a foul call on him, like players do all the time.  The difference was that it missed everything, going wide of the backboard.  That made it appear like he was wildly flinging the ball in disgust, leaving the refs with little choice but to T him up, whereas if it had hit any part of the basket and harmlessly bounced towards a ref, I don't think he would've got the tech.  Key play though, giving him his 3rd and 4th fouls with more than 14 minutes to go.  He then sat for ~8 minutes.

On a different topic, I'd like the Knights to work on the press break in practice today.

I find it a bit bothersome that the day after an opening round romp in the MIAA tourney, the lead article in the Sentinel is filled with "what could have been" sentiment.

Understanding that the intent was to show the bond and support of two roommates, teammates and friends, it was a very nice article.  I am also aware that the team, with a healthy Peter and Andy, would have a much different dynamic and lead to different results, mostly positive. Its also clear to me that the minutes and productivity of Neil, Tanis, Overway, Ray, Dickerson, etc... would have been altered- a domino effect.

For a team now seemingly fighting for a tourney birth, in a must win out scenario, the article left all to wonder "what could of been" in case they fall short as early as tomorrow evening- the easy, built-in excuse " if we only had.....".  They have taken care of business all year, these players.

I'm probably reading too much into it and I know it's not the players "at fault", simply the tone the writer wanted to take. I also simply hate excuses.

On  a different note, I unfortunately do not think the overtime games will have much impact on how Albion and Adrian come out Friday (although I wish differently).  You see more challenging scenarios in the Big 10, Big East, and especially the SEC tourneys where they play, seemingly, 5 days straight.  The big boys do have the best rehab, and most importantly, dining tables at their disposal, so their recovery may be a little easier.

Before last night there had been 3 ot. games in MIAA tournament history.  No double overtimes.
In 2001 Adrian beat Albion in ot., and the next game beat Hope in ot. before losing to Calvin in the finals.
In 2003 Hope beats Calvin in ot.  in the semi, and beats Albion the next night in the finals.
Both Adrian and Albion have played in lots of tough physical games this season, and they should be used to the grind by now.  If any residual impact of a double ot. game were to show up one might expect to see it if either of those two make it to the final game.

Hard to believe that we have seen MM for the last time.  I really expected him to put on a show in Holland.

Hope 1830, Calvin 847, Albion 412, and Olivet 505 for total attendance last night of 3594.  With MIAA students getting in free, and discounts for others it is hard to imagine these games coming any where near break even, except possibly the game at Hope.  The presidents now have the cover they need for their recent decision to eliminate the 5-8 teams.
In the women's games on Tuesday the total attendance was something like 932, with Hope at 580, Calvin 167, Albion 128, and 57 at St. Marys.

watch out!! (note to self included) The all-empowering Karma vultures are out today.  I keep forgetting that you're not supposed to lend your insight or opinions on this board, my bad.

Paraphrasing.... " We had high, high, high hopes coming into our senior year" is a reflective statement reserved for when the season is completed, not when you're fighting for your playoff lives.  Again, I know Bowser's intent was not to write the season off.

-k to the Holland Sentinel for restricting online access to its articles to subscribers only.  what is this, 1995?

You have misread the article so badly that I don't know where to begin.  Seriously.  It's a great article about Will, and friendship, and changes, and determination.  I don't see any of what you are implying, and the quote above is completely taken out of context.  (Show of hands of those who are surprised?  Nobody?  Figured as much.)

HCG -- Although this isn't much help right now, the Sentinel does tend to make articles available online in full a day (or two or three) after the fact.  You should be able to see it a few days from now.

And no, HD, I haven't smited you for it, but it was tempting.   ::) :P

Adrian had maybe 15 people who made the trip, all of them probably relatives.  No students from Adrian that I could see.   It was a very disappointing turnout for the Bulldogs.

Olivet had what at this point I'll call their standard home crowd, the bleachers looked as full as they usually have minus the empty visitor section.  And no band for some reason.

HolyS*$#  CM, you have misread my comments so badly I don't even know where to begin.  I even underlined that it was a nice article about " the bond and support of two roommates, teammates and friends". I even admitted to probably reading too much into it, and even said that I KNEW it was not Bowser's intent to write the season off.  What else do I have to say?

I suppose if the quote had said something like " Even with the loss of Peter and Andy, we STILL HAVE high, high, high expectations for our/my  senior year", I wouldn't have wasted your time with my mindless babble.

Here is the next video of the day: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/blog/the_dagger/post/Ugly-altercation-between-coach-player-leads-to-?urn=ncaab-325868

A division II coach gets a little rough in practice and things get ugly. Doesn't seem like this should happen at a place called "Holy Family University".

Knowing quite a few people who came up through parochial schools I believe the wack with the ruler or belt stories are more than a little true.
Just think: "spare the rod and spoil the child".   Have we possibly encountered more than one spoiled child in the last 24 hours?  ;)

Looks like knightslappy's "guaranteed" prediction came true. 3 technical fouls in 1 game keeps things interesting.

Trine with 2 intentional fouls and Calvin with 1 technical.

The one on Rogers was quite interesting. A pivot-elbow to Snikker's head. I don't think it was really "intentional", but as oldknight said to me at halftime, it was Kooiker sending a message that the game wasn't going to get out of hand.

It was just minutes after Neil Smith tackled Snikkers on a breakaway layup attempt.

Yup; I think pretty much everyone who saw the game agree the second intentional foul call wouldn't have been made absent Neil Smith's takedown of Snikkers on the breakaway. Rogers' foul wasn't flagrant; Smith's was.

For those who didn't see tonight's contest, it was an Albion game. MIAA fans know what I mean. Trine's defense was about physical and in-your-face as I've ever seen it and clearly had the Knights on their heels. During the regular season Calvin badly beat Trine on the boards but Trine was winning the rebounding battle for most of the first half before regression to the mean finally set in (for the game, Calvin outrebounded Trine 41-30).

An upset was brewing at the 5 minute mark of the first half with Albion--oops, Trine--leading by 11 before three critical plays involving Trent Salo allowed the Knights to rip off 16 straight to end the half. Trent hit a three to cut the Thunder lead to seven. Moments later Snikkers made a steal near midcourt and had a clear path to an open layup before being blindsided by Smith who simply cut the legs from Tom. I immediately looked to see where Salo was and what he would do. Trent made a beeline to Snikkers and placed himself directly in from of Tom to keep the young sophomore from retaliating as he was prepared to do. Though Snikkers missed both free throws, Salo immediately nailed another triple to make it a 31-29 game. By now the fans were as aroused as 847 can be and Trine never responded until the second half.

Calvin did a great job on Ian Jackson who was limited to 8 points on 2-14 from the floor and who was never a factor. While there were some individual breakdowns, as a whole Calvin defended well in the second half but I'm greatly troubled by the turnover situation. Calvin coughed up the ball 13 times in the second half and this late in the season that's way too many. Unless that changes the Knights won't survive the weekend.  Kruis was wonderful on the defensive end getting 8 boards, 2 blocks and several intimidations, but I'm still waiting for him to become a factor on offense. Snikkers was solid in limited play (20 minutes due to foul trouble) getting 18 points and 3 important steals, and freshmen Jordan Brink--despite a careless turnover with about a minute left--continues to impress, getting 14 points and nailing 6-6 down the stretch from the stripe. The kid is simply money from the line and is now 50-54 on the season.

The second intentional foul called on Rogers was the right call. One of the rule changes for this season is that any elbow to the face is automatically an intentional foul. I wasn't aware of this rule change until last night, either.
