KS:  We know you love the computer ranking, and Massey.  Your stubborn defense of Calvin's high ranking is nice, but franklly being ranked where they are, and then ending the season 16-12 raises questions.  Are the rankings possibly wrong or did Calvin underperform?

Underperform what? Our preseason expectations? Not mine.

From my perspective Calvin lost 3 games in the MIAA this year because the league was simply better than last year.  Kzoo, one of the Adrian games, and Olivet.   I still only consider the Aquinas loss to be a truly bad loss.

Hope was able to pull out their Kzoo game in OT, hung on to beat Adrian when they couldn't convert their last possession, and came from behind and hung on to beat Olivet at home.  This is what happens in good leagues.

Hope finished 12-2 and looking at the league standings it looks like they ran away and hid, but the truth is they could easily have lost 3 or 4 conference games and finished 9-5.

If ever there was a year in the MIAA when parity hid the leagues true strengths, I think it was this year.

Interesting:

2010 Calvin Massey Rating: 0.326 Power: 4.72 (ranked #43 in D3, 747 overall)
2011 Calvin Massey Rating: 0.363 Power: 7.41 (ranked #59 in D3, 693 overall)

The NCAA tournament will change some numbers still, but as of now, Massey isn't as disappointed in Calvin as Doug E Fresh and realist are!

How do you expect a computer to figure out obvious talent being misused?  The rankings being that close just means that they under-performed again.  To go 16 & 12 with that amount of talent is almost criminal.

Well I guess that explains the warrant I see Bill Forsythe--Kent County chief prosecutor--just issued. And I thought it was due entirely to the fact that Forsythe was peeved because Albion, his alma mater, got swept this season.

Dang it! That's too far away for an evening trip from Chicago I think.
Tribes of primitve hunters, with rhinestone codpieces rampant, should build pyramids of Chevy engines covered in butterscotch syrup to exalt the diastolic, ineffable, scintillated and cacophonous salamander of truth which slimes and distracts from each and every orifice of your holy refrigerator.

There's nothing that really stands out about Hanover statistically at first glance.  Their 3 point % under 35.  More turnovers than assists.  Their big man shoots a high percentage but isn't huge at 6'7" and 205 lbs.  Early look says this is a good match up for Hope. Here are Hanover's stats:  http://www.hanover.edu/docs/hmb1011team.htm

Hanover looks like a really young team.  5 Fr. and 7 Soph's, with just 1 Senior.

Exactly 300 miles from Hope's campus to Augie's, almost all highway. I'd go for sure if I didn't have to host some visitors this weekend. Too bad, as there is a Calvin grad on Augie's faculty who loves basketball and scotch.
